The Faculty of Humanities shares with the community the publication of the Article “Generating Subjective Theories After a Disaster: The Role of Personality”, in the Colombian Journal of Psychology (scopus Q2).

This article, carried out in the context of a DIDULS project to strengthen teaching, is based on a study with victims of the Baquedano sector, as a result of the tsunami that devastated Coquimbo on September 16, 2015.

In its summary, the document points out that the role of people's beliefs in their perception of disasters has been little studied.

That is why the authors analyzed how people who experienced an earthquake and a subsequent tsunami use subjective theories (ST) to explain their traumatic experience.

This study aimed to interpret the explanations developed by a group of people about the earthquake and tsunami that occurred in Chile in 2015. Thirteen episodic interviews were conducted as part of a qualitative case study. Participants' theories were grouped into four categories: the impact of personality on one's reaction to difficulties; the existence of a link between personality and coping styles; the limited influence of personality on the way of coping with difficulties; and changes in personality after experiencing difficulties. These findings are discussed by analyzing whether participants' explanations could foster personal growth and psychological well-being after the disaster.

This work brings together among its authors Academics and graduates of the ULS School of Psychology, as well as postgraduate students from the university.

The event was organized by the Integrated Management Unit of Pedagogies (UGIP), with the purpose of highlighting the experiences acquired by graduated students, supervising teachers and tutors in the development of their Professional Practice.

The country is a year and a half after the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, and with it the implementation of the various measures implemented to overcome the health crisis in the daily routines of all people. On the one hand, educational establishments had to adapt, and on the other, teachers were trained in new technologies to be able to successfully face the new educational scenario.

Under this context, the UGIP held the II Seminar on Professional Practice of ULS Pedagogies, in which graduated students, tutor teachers and supervising teachers presented the different experiences obtained during the first semester of 2021.

“In the last 2 semesters, 466 internships have been carried out in a professional context, in all the communes of the Coquimbo Region and other regions of the country, and 100 of them in rural areas. Furthermore, we have 12 collaboration agreements with municipalities and regional educational systems. This shows us that the practices require all of our attention and respect from the actors involved in the process, professionals from the educational system who contribute to the professional development of future teachers, and all the professionals who participate in the initial ULS training” he noted. Dr. Sandra Álvarez, director of the UGIP.
