The initiative allowed us to share experiences and manage alliances between organizations that work on territorial heritage built on land.

As part of the activities of the Territorial Heritage Cycle of the Coquimbo Region, organized jointly by the Department of Architecture of the University and the Universe, Earth and Poetry Project: ULS-1995, the second activity was carried out, titled “Land and Heritage” . On this occasion, different organizations dedicated to working on earth-built heritage shared experiences and began joint coordination in the context of the presentation of the CIATYP ULS Earth Architecture and Heritage Research CenterCiatyp 2 1

Representatives of strategic institutions for the development of CIATYP participated in this meeting: Rodrigo Pérez Marín, general coordinator representative of UdeC – FAUG, who spoke about the ARCOT Network, framed in the UNESCO chair "Earth Architecture, constructive cultures and sustainable development"; Daniela Herrera Cárdenas, official of the Coquimbo Region Technical Office of the National Monuments Council belonging to the National Cultural Heritage Service; Bernardita Ladrón de Guevara, Coordinator of the Heritage and Disaster Risk Management Table of ONEMI; and Natalia Jorquera, Academic of the ULS Department of Architecture and coordinator of the Research Center.

The activity addressed the different areas of the guests, focusing their work on the general theme addressed by the ULS academic Natalia Jorquera, who presented the CIATYP ULS Earth Architecture and Heritage Research Center, recently created in the Casa de Higher education.

This Center is created under the protection of the UNESCO Chair "Earth Architecture, Constructive Cultures and Sustainable Development", an honorary chair awarded to the University of La Serena - along with 6 other Chilean state institutions of higher education gathered under the ARCOT Network - with the aim of disseminating scientific and technical knowledge about land architecture in the field of heritage and human settlements. It will focus on contributing to the enhancement and conservation of the heritage built on land in the regions of Atacama and Coquimbo, through the generation of knowledge, links with the environment and training of professionals.

In this regard, Architect Natalia Jorquera commented: “Knowing that there is a very rich heritage in this region, more than a year ago I proposed to the University of La Serena the idea of generating this center dedicated to earth structures and heritage. understanding that there is a standard of opportunity, but also understanding that there is a lot to do, since there is little heritage that is identified as such and is protected, and that translates into a large part of this heritage being at risk of disappearance.”Ciatyp 4 1

In addition, he referred to the importance and urgency of this type of initiative that was born at the University of La Serena. “We know that being in a country subject to risks, such as seismic risk, we have a heritage that is very vulnerable and that if we do not protect it, it could disappear in the next natural disaster. We know that with each earthquake we lose part of the heritage built on land and we do not always lose it because of the damage that the earthquakes have caused, but because many times the people who are going to assess the damage are not trained in the subject and because they see a fissure "They order the buildings to be demolished and with that we are losing heritage and regional and territorial identity."

The Heritage built on land is present in a large part of the buildings, part of the historical buildings of the regions of Atacama and Coquimbo, with varied construction techniques and numerous architectural typologies that are not present in other parts of the country, from monumental buildings related to specific periods of regional history, which is why this project will focus on taking action, articulating the different efforts between organizations to know and protect this valuable testimony of historical architecture.

This activity is part of a cycle organized by the Universe, Earth and Poetry Project and the Department of Architecture and dedicated to the dissemination of the work of the academic units. The next activity will take place on July 14, at 11:30 a.m. and is titled “The territorial heritage of the Serena Plan – CEDAU”. Find out on social networks @Diveuls and @userenaoficial.

The Prototype consists of a robot, which has a camera and wheels that transmits virtual classes and facilitates the hybrid education system.

The practicing students of the Mechanical Execution Engineering Career, Diego Ramos, Gabriel Pastén, Joshua Espíndola and Matías Soto, together with Raquel Salinas López, Administrator of the Technological Center of the Faculty of Engineering; José Contreras Molina, professional from the same Center; and Marcelo Chávez Vicencio, professional of the FIULS 2030 Project; They developed a RAAD-ULS prototype (Automaton Teaching Assistance Robot) which allows recording and transmitting virtual classes in motion.

Regarding the creation of the prototype, Raquel Salinas stated that “the students have created a robot that moves with a camera, and that can follow the teacher, since it has a base and wheels that facilitate movement in all directions. This prototype is a tool that allows the transmission of hybrid classes in high quality. To carry out the prototype, two students worked on the design and 3D printing part, while the other two practitioners developed what we call the brain of the robot.”

Matías Soto pointed out that "before manufacturing the prototype we took Arduino courses, we studied the operation of the camera, face recognition, at the same time we learned to establish serial communications, that is, what the Arduino asks of the robot and how this one responds. Without a doubt, the most important thing was to recognize the engines themselves and the most complex thing was to move on to the programming structure.”

Likewise, Joshua Espíndola regarding the manufacturing of the prototype indicated that “together with Gabriel we started working with the movements of the wheels that we sought to be omnidirectional so that they allow free and independent operation and movement. “Lugo we saw the following structure, which is the base where the motors and the wheel sound, we made connections and created a robotic arm to manage the camera in terrestrial motion and facial recognition.”

The above is an initiative that is part of the challenges of the Faculty of Engineering that aim at the integration of Industry 4.0, driven by digital technologies, the experience of developing intelligent prototypes, and communication.
