My class

The conference given to the four faculties of the ULS, was in charge of the Distance Education Office and was coordinated by the Teaching Improvement Unit.

Last Friday, June 12, the UMD and the OED (Office of Distance Education) held an induction session whose purpose was to publicize the operation of the new institutional platform MiClase, a tool that will allow teachers, generate audiovisual content quickly and safely without having to download additional programs.

Likewise, MiClase will facilitate the storage of your videos for later sending to your students, or the publication of the material on other websites, such as the institutional platform Moodle.

During the induction, the teachers had the opportunity to enter the platform, learn about its content and operation, as well as make a test recording.

The platform has 3 options: screen recording, screen recording and image of the teacher or recording of the teacher explaining content. It is recommended to use the second option (screen recording accompanied by an image of the teacher) to make the learning experience more humanized.

Regarding the induction, the Coordinator of the Distance Education Office, MTI Humberto Farías, pointed out that “the induction to our MiClase platform leaves us with a pleasant feeling in relation to the reception of the academics who participated. in her. MiClase seeks to support asynchronous distance teaching and in that sense it was valued by those attending the induction.”

The professional added that “the interest raised validated the Institution's need to have a technological platform that allows academics to autonomously generate multimedia resources that can be shared with their students. Given the public's interest, another induction session will be held on July 3, with the aim of continuing to instruct more teachers of our Institution on this new technological platform."

Likewise, the professor of the Department of Social Sciences, Dr. Fabián Araya, commented: "I consider the effort made by the University and specifically by the Distance Education Office to create the MiClase platform very relevant. With it we can record videos and audiovisual materials to make our classes more attractive and work asynchronously with the students. I found the platform very friendly, it requires little work time. I liked the platform dissemination workshop, coordinated by the UMD, since it integrated practical aspects that allowed us to carry out exercises and immediately solve the doubts that arose. It is a great contribution to remote classes in times of pandemic in the ULS".

The Teaching Improvement Unit will be in charge of bringing the MiClass Platform closer to the academic community. This is why new work instances will be managed and, if required, advice to those who need it. In this sense, the UMD and the OED have proposed to develop new instances of socialization of the platform in the coming weeks.

innovation

The institution will implement an associative governance model for the management, coordination and promotion of innovation and knowledge creation.

The University of La Serena has maintained a sustained increase in its scientific productivity, thanks to the creation of an ecosystem that promotes focused research relevant to the territory, which has allowed progress towards greater complexity.

With the aim of taking on new challenges in matters of Innovation and Creation, the ULS seeks to implement a competitive model to strengthen the scientific and technological productivity of the University of La Serena in preparation for the country's 2030 development scenario.

The institutional challenge will be activated through the MINEDUC Innovation in Higher Education Performance Agreement, called “Implementation of a Competitive Model of Innovation and Creation: Preparing the University of La Serena for 2030.”

To this end, the ULS formed the Multidisciplinary Council for Innovation and Creation, CMIC, which will allow us to deepen and strengthen the institutional complexity in these matters. Chaired by the Rector of the University of La Serena, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, this council is proposed as an advisory body to the Vice-Rector's Office for Research and Postgraduate Studies, thus responding to the institutional interest in incorporating innovation and creation into the ecosystem that promotes the investigation.

“The challenge we face as the Multidisciplinary Innovation and Creation Council is to add more academic researchers to the country and local opportunities that emerge from innovation and creation, especially artistic creation; in an expansion of the field of action of scientific productivity that at the ULS has gone hand in hand, fundamentally of scientific publications and social impact,” said the Rector, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés.

The Research and Development Director and Executive Director of the InES Project, Dr. Sergio Torres, explained that "the installation and strengthening of innovation and creation in the university's research-promoting ecosystem is a very relevant aspect, as it allows us to address new challenges in the generation of knowledge. In this sense, the MINEDUC project indicated above will allow us to operationalize different mechanisms that allow us to activate our ecosystem, now in matters of innovation and creation. Therefore, the invitation is to join innovation and creation in our institution".

The CMIC is made up of authorities and academics, is chaired by the Rector of the ULS and coordinated by the Vice-Rector for Research and Postgraduate Studies. In its academic component, it has representatives from the four faculties: Alex Ovalle, Ronny Martínez, Francisco López, María Lourdes Campos; and members of the Investigation Commission: Fabián Araya, Omar Sabaj, Yerko Vásquez and Antonio Vega.
