Then, the former Dean of the Faculty of Social, Business and Legal Sciences addressed the economic sphere that governs the AFP system and the implications of modifications and improvements.

Likewise, the former Dean thanked and valued the deep connection he has with the University of La Serena, and stressed the importance of instances that allow dialogue and the deepening of cross-cutting issues. “It is very important because to the extent that people are informed about an issue, they believe less in magical solutions for all issues. So if we delve into a topic, like this case of the AFP, it is necessary to know the details of the real functioning of the system, since, as is the case with health, there are many items that can be solved with better management," he stated. .

The social outbreak that Chile has been experiencing since October 18 has also meant an academic and theoretical challenge to understand the challenges and improvements that society demands. To this end, the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Social, Business and Legal Sciences of the ULS held the discussion: “New challenges for a Constitution of the Republic.”

In the first instance, the academic Mg. Cristian Merino Álvarez addressed the historical and fundamental background of the political constitution, for later the academic and Director of the ULS Law degree, Mg. Carlos Magna Rodríguez, spoke about the challenges and implications of the political agreement in favor of the creation of a new fundamental charter.

The event, which had a high participation, generated an enriching instance of dialogue, reflection and consultation by attendees with experts in the legal area.

The Industrial Civil Engineering student, Pablo Malig Cabrillana, highlighted the instance. “I thought the discussion was very good because it was quite explanatory and didactic, since the speakers dedicated themselves to explaining the topic closely; However, there was not enough time to accommodate so many questions that were generated.”chat const3

Likewise, student Enrique González, of Environmental Civil Engineering, valued the level of expertise of the exhibitors. “The most positive thing I found is that, unlike the town halls, which are in the squares where people who have technical knowledge do not usually attend, today the exhibitors had complete knowledge and, therefore, a lot of debate was generated. more technical through concrete data,” he stated.

The objective of this activity was to form a space for reflection and knowledge about the next constitutional process, under the context of the social outbreak experienced in the country.

In this way, the expert in constitutional law explained the context by which the current Constitution governs and the mechanisms chosen for the drafting of a new Magna Carta for the country, an opportunity where attendees also asked different questions regarding the topics discussed.

Framed by inclusion and care for the environment, this meeting was held on the Juan Pablo II campus of the Catholic University of Temuco, in the Region of La Araucanía.

13 second-year students of the History and Geography Pedagogy degree at the University of La Serena participated in the congress, along with the academic from the Department of Social Sciences, Mg. Marcela Robles Iriarte.

histogeo2The activity, organized by the Chilean Society of Geographic Sciences (SOCHIGEO), took place between November 12 and 15 at the Catholic University of Temuco, and included participation in various activities related to the study of territorial imbalances and regional development.

The meeting allowed the development of various activities, talks and master classes. It is within this framework that the presentation at the Geographic Education table is found, in which representatives of the University of La Serena participated, through two pilot projects. The first consisted of the creation of a smartphone application about environmental sustainability and the preservation and care of wetlands, and the second was a poster for learning Economic Geography.

It should be noted that one of the hallmarks of these works is inclusion. That is why both projects contemplate sign language for people with hearing and visual disabilities and Braille language for blind people.

Within the framework of the conclusion of the Congress activities, a site visit to the Conguillío National Park was contemplated, in the commune of Melipeuco, a space generally known for being the home of centenary araucaria trees and the Llaima volcano, in which the team He was able to learn, through meaningful and experiential learning, the dynamics of volcanoes and how they are capable of shaping the landscape.

The meeting concluded with the invitation from SOCHIGEO to the next Congress, to be held in 2020 in Valparaíso.
