With the aim of explaining what teleworking and neurotechnology mean, the Argentine lawyer and PhD in Labor Law, Social Security and Human Rights, Viviana Díaz, carried out a finished study and put it into a book, whose launch in Chile held it at the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences of the University of La Serena, which was attended by university authorities, academics and special guests.

On the occasion, Dr. Díaz provided a human view of what it means to work with technology and remotely, the benefits that this provides, but also the threats. She talked about knowing how to educate ourselves regarding the use of technology, systematizing a method of Neuro ICT Management that facilitates brain programming from prevention.

“The book is about the application of neuroscience to prevent the harmful effect of technologies on the brain, the brain 'burned out' by excess information, by excess contact with screens; It is about the training of new job skills, which are those that are required of us, precisely to beat the machine, artificial intelligence and generate better jobs, because technology certainly takes away jobs, but others are also created from ICT,” said Dr. Díaz.

Neuroscience research allowed the expert to generate a method called Neuro ICT Management, to facilitate learning processes. "People still do not have the dimension of the black areas of technology, it is not harmless and that is why we must train ourselves to have tools to improve our competitiveness so that this misused technology does not infoxicate us," said the author of the book.

During the launch, convened by FACSE and the ULS Postgraduate and Postgraduate Directorate, the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences, Dr. Luperfina Rojas, referred to this issue of remote work “as something plausible, one must be aware that in today's company and artificial intelligence has helped us, but just as it helps, there are also many risks, because it is a strong labor competition. The author helps us see the whole prism of remote work, its pros and cons, as well as prevent the misuse of ICT.”

For the Director of the Department of Education, Dr. Jaime Montes, it is important that these spaces for reflection have the participation of the university community. “It is good that academics and students are part of these events, since it allows us to train, through spaces like this, future critical professionals who can speak out and present their ideas in various situations,” he said.

For his part, for the Academic Secretary of CRESUR, Dr. Víctor Avendaño, activities of this type generate spaces for relevant dialogues for the training of future professionals. “It is important to hold this event to know what the teachers and students think in order to work according to what the university community needs, and the important thing is to build and debate so that future teachers who graduate from the University of La Serena have the tools to work with XNUMXst century students,” he stated.

Teaching with technology

This seminar was carried out thanks to the cooperation agreement between the University of La Serena and CRESUR of Mexico, since 2016.

This agreement has developed a series of programs, where the “Technology Classroom 4.0” project stands out, which seeks to install at the ULS a room with high technological standards that allows teachers and students not only to learn about the use of new technologies, but how to put them at the service of the problems of the educational system.

In addition to this project, both institutions have worked on the development of other programs, such as the Interdisciplinary Journal of Latin American Studies, and the book collection “Pensares”, which will contain various presentations and pedagogical texts available to ULS students.

Exchange students join courses at the four faculties of the state campus.

Twelve exchange students from Germany, Colombia, Spain and Mexico joined the University of La Serena to study an academic semester in various degrees at the institution.

exchange2One of these students is Melanie Schautt, from the University of Applied Sciences of Munich (Germany), who is joining the Engineering in Business Administration (mention Tourism. “I hope to learn a lot at the University, especially the language and also academically. In addition "We will learn a lot about the culture, and that is very important because I study Tourism. I love being here," said the young woman.

While Hernán Gutiérrez, a student at the University of Colima (Mexico) and who is joining the Mechanical Civil Engineering career, highlighted that as a group “they are sure to give their best and that the University will continue to welcome us in this way, that is the best. Carrying out academic mobility is a dream that we have always had, even though we have different interests, but in the end all of these are accompanied by a unique study experience that broadens the perspective we have of the world and marks us forever.”

During a welcome breakfast, the Academic Vice-Rector, Dr. Alejandra Torrejón, representing the ULS Rector, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, appreciated that this group of young people placed their trust in the University to complement their studies in those disciplines of their interest. “This exchange program is a very important opportunity for student development, and we hope that this stay is a transcendental moment in their lives and that they can generate bonds of friendship between their peers and their teachers,” she said.exchange3

The members of the PACE and APRENDE programs of the university organized work days to receive visitors from the southern university.

Teams from the PACE and APRENDE ULS Accompaniment programs participated in the meeting of Higher Education Institutions (IES) together with representatives of the University of Aysén, with the aim of sharing experiences of inclusion in tertiary education.

pace aysen2These meetings are intended for tertiary education entities to share their work methods, in order to create feedback and thus improve the work being carried out at the respective university campuses.

The Inclusion coordinator and PACE executive of said university, Francisco Vio, explained the reasons for holding this meeting and noted that “on the recommendation of support professionals from the MINEDUC, they asked to make a visit to the ULS, with the objective of learn from their experiences in the leadership, focus and support they carry out with PACE teachers, tutors and students, both in the PEM component and the AES component of said program.”

The work of the day was presented under three themes: visualize and detect other approaches to support and accompaniment in the PEM component with establishments, directors, teachers, parents and students; know successful and not so successful strategies in AES accompaniment; and learn about experiences and inclusion approaches that have been implemented in regional universities.

For the PACE ULS social worker professional, Ricardo Carmona, it was very enriching to be able to learn how the PEM PACE Aysén team works with the students of the program. “The proposal to work within the PEM component with teachers and the integrative practices brought to the classroom are a good experience that appears as an opportunity to develop (...) the integration that they carry out between schools and the community by including the work of the TP schools and their expertise, through practical learning with local productive areas, results in learning that can be considered within our work as a good strategy,” he indicated.

On the other hand, the academic mentor of the APRENDE ULS team, Elizabeth Fuentes, went deeper and said “it seems relevant to me to know other experiences in the area of ​​accompaniment, without a doubt, I rescue key concepts that determine success in the work carried out by the PACE team of the University of Aysén and that would contribute significantly to our work. With the aim of being a learning space on the sexual rights of people with disabilities, the inclusion project of the University of La Serena held the Seminar “Let's talk about that? The activity included presentations by lawyer Claudio Pinto, expert in disability law; the researcher in anthropology and graduate in gender and culture, Patricia Aguirre, and the kinesiologist and assistant professor at the University of Chile, Mg. The Department of Education, through Campus Digital, registered the exhibitions, which were presented to a large audience from all over Latin America.

Academics from the Department of Education of the University of La Serena participated in the 2019 Virtual Education Forum “Challenges of Teacher Professionalization and Innovation for Continuous Improvement”, an event organized by the Regional Center for Teacher Training and Educational Research (CRESUR of Mexico ).

On this occasion, academics Dr. Héctor Bugueño and Dr. Desirée López de Maturana participated, who presented their topics through the generation of online resources with the support of Campus Digital. "These initiatives not only demonstrate the outstanding participation of the University of La Serena in national and international events, but also demonstrate the importance of developing very strengthened collaborative work between the different internal units, and in particular, the link between the Department of Education and Campus Digital, which has made quality international participation possible,” explains Yanett Leiva, curriculum designer at Campus Digital.
