Within the framework of the nineteenth anniversary of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences, the inauguration ceremony of the Digital Content Room and Meeting Room of the Journalism degree at the University of La Serena was held.
The solemn ceremony was held in the presence of the Rector of the University, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés Pizarro, the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences, Dr. Luperfina Rojas Escobar, the Director of the Department of Social Sciences, Mg. Hernán Cortés Olivares and the Director of the School of Journalism, Mg. Cristian Muñoz Catalán, authorities, academics and students of the race.
The inauguration had a high participation of students, who highly valued the infrastructure and technology efforts with global standards that the campus incorporates in favor of quality education, in which they will be able to learn, develop, rehearse and perfect the pedagogical contents of the professional line of the new study plan.
The Dean of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences, Dr. Luperfina Rojas, emphasized the value of the teachers and directors in achieving both rooms. “These new offices have a special design in favor of a teaching-learning process linked to enhancing the professional capabilities of the institution's future journalists,” she stated.
The Digital Content Room is inserted in the process of implementing the curricular renewal of the Journalism degree, which is why this space will allow students to have an infrastructure that will enhance the teaching-learning processes in technological and journalistic skills.
For the Director of the Department of Social Sciences, Mg. Hernán Cortés, this space will allow students to further enhance their practice in favor of their professional performance. “It is a true learning laboratory to develop your own skills, through methodologies and apply theories of both written and visual communication,” he said.
Likewise, the Director of Journalism, Mg. Cristian Muñoz commented that "the new Digital Content Room is part of the implementation process of the curricular renewal of the Journalism degree, which began in 2018, "it responds to the need to have an adequate space for "the generation of content in a coherent and consistent manner with the turn towards the development of digital journalism that took place in the new curriculum."
In total there are 55 workstations equipped with computers that allow the work of digital video and photo editing software. In addition, it has four Smart TV screens and a projector that allow wireless connection, so that students can share content, not only from computers, but also from their own mobile devices, which allows students to study the degree in a environment with high standards of a modern newsroom of a journalistic medium.
