The meeting was held within the framework of the execution of a FONDECYT project and support for Ineergias and the Research and Development Directorate.

Within the framework of the FONDECYT project “Manufacturing of low-cost and low-toxicity Solar Cells” directed by the researcher from the University of La Serena, Dr. Carlos Rodríguez, an important presentation was made on the topic that was attended by the Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering of the National University of Mar del Plata (Argentina) and researcher at CONICET, Dr. Marcela Vásquez, who has more than 10 years of experience in solar cells and more than 15 scientific articles in the area.

The meeting, which took place in the facilities of the Technology Center of the Faculty of Engineering (CETECFI), brought together students belonging to the GIMEGA Group and had as its main objective to discuss the results of the FONDECYT project and, in addition, obtain their guidance in the manufacturing process of prototypes and measurement of efficiency. This last measure, described by Dr. Rodríguez as “of utmost importance because it tells us how much of the light received by the solar cell that we are manufacturing, is converted into useful electrical energy.”

gimega2Dr. Vásquez gave two talks; one of a closed nature, only for the members of the research group, where she showed her progress and the possibilities of international collaboration were also discussed. In that instance, the professional showed her main advances in thin film solar cells, where her emphasis was on low costs and low toxicity.

The second talk was held openly for the university community and was also linked to the activities of the Doctorate program in Energy, Water and Environment, where a conversation was generated about the manufacture of thin films with applications for photovoltaic solar energy and to prevent corrosion of concrete structures in coastal areas.

“Dr. Vázquez's visit has been one of the most enriching experiences of my academic career, she is an excellent professional and person, who was always open to sharing her experience and knowledge with all of us who are beginning our research in the area. ; We are in talks to apply for joint international projects and, personally, I hope to be able to receive it again in 2019. The University of La Serena has always had an open-door policy on these issues, especially considering that it has been understood that Renewable Energy is one of the important hallmarks that the university is cultivating,” said Dr. Carlos Rodríguez. .

The objective was to continue with the basis of the inclusion of people with hearing disabilities and their right to have equal opportunities and participation in all areas.

With the fundamental purpose of continuing to train students, officials and professionals of the University of La Serena, in the areas of education and engineering, in Sign Language, different workshops were held organized and awarded within the framework of the projects of the Ministry of Education, Institutional Development Fund -FDI- of the Student Entrepreneurship line.

sign language2The workshops, which ended with a closing ceremony where different university authorities and professionals from the institution participated, were based on the inclusion of people with hearing disabilities and their right to equal opportunities and participation, promoting respect for diversity, in addition to creating inclusive awareness in students about the accessibility and inclusion of deaf people.

The training was carried out at different levels, both basic, intermediate and fourth level facilitator, which generated a continuity of training and learning, since students from previous courses were able to resume classes, thus achieving a level of compelling experience to put it into practice. in the places where they work.

Among the specific objectives that stood out in carrying out these workshops was knowing and managing concepts such as culture and identity of deaf people and their needs, creating social awareness on the issue of accessibility at the University, disseminating sign language as an effective tool for social and educational inclusion of the deaf community and provide a useful learning tool to students to have better job competence in issues of accessibility and respect for diversity.

At the meeting held between both research centers, the executive director of LIITEC-ULS, Francisco López, presented the application “3D Mitotic Cell Division, a learning experience with augmented reality.”

The Research and Technological Innovation Laboratory for Science Education of the University of La Serena (LIITEC-ULS) and the Education Research Center (CIE-UBO) of the Bernardo O'Higgins University established a strategic alliance that supports the development and dissemination of educational teaching materials created in the institution of the Coquimbo Region.

liitec uls2At the meeting held between both research centers, the executive director of LIITEC-ULS, Francisco López, presented the application “3D Mitotic Cell Division, a learning experience with augmented reality”, a tool that explains cell division interactively, as as this shows video lesson.

“This alliance with the UBO will increase the dissemination of the 'app' that we developed, we will be able to co-design learning activities with teachers, validate disciplinary, pedagogical and didactical content,” López explained.

In this sense, CIE-UBO will collaborate with the research and dissemination of the content so that the free educational technological resource is used by the majority of schoolchildren in our country. “We hope to produce scientific knowledge through articles and research projects generated at our University, to enrich the work they are doing at the ULS,” said the director of the UBO Doctorate in Education, Raquel Flores.
