I find poetry

More than 50 poets from 23 cities, from Osorno to Antofagasta, gathered at the ULS for the opening day.

The Mistralian Center of the University of La Serena and the Café Poético Literary and Cultural Group called on lovers of literature this year to celebrate a new anniversary of the achievement of the Nobel Prizes in Literature by Gabriela Mistral (1945) and Pablo Neruda (1971).

From December 7 to 9, the Second National Poetry Meeting was held in our region in tribute to our Nobel Prize winners in Literature. More than 50 poets from 23 cities, from Osorno to Antofagasta, gathered at the University of La Serena for the opening day.

I find poetry2Three feet of cueca inaugurated this Second Meeting. Then, the Director of the ULS Mistralian Center, Dr. Rolando Manzano Concha, welcomed with a conference about Mr. Alfredo Nobel, the Nobel Foundation and obtaining the two awards for Chile. Later, there were readings of poems and declamations. The opening day closed with a dinner at the University's Central Casino.

On the morning of Saturday the 8th, the poets went to the city of Tongoy where they read and recited poetry in front of the birthplace of the poet Víctor Domingo Silva. Each poet wrote a tribute text and a “Poetic Cord” was formed with them, which once displayed on the front of the house, was delivered to the House of Culture of Tongoy.

In the afternoon, on the way to the valley, they visited Vicuña. At dusk, they continued towards Montegrande. There, a poetry reading was held in the local church, to later begin a nighttime pilgrimage to the Mausoleum of Gabriela Mistral, whose route was illuminated by the dim light of the candles that each poet carried. It was a sight worth seeing, the column of people crossing the night of an already sleeping and silent Montegrande. Next to Gabriela's grave there was a reading of poems and declamations.

I find poetry3On Sunday, between 15:00 p.m. and 19:00 p.m., at the Mistral House of La Compañía, the last activity of the Meeting took place. There there was a new reading of poems and declamations, and then gave way to the presentation of books. At the end of the activity, a medal and the respective participation certificate were presented.

Attendees agreed in recognizing the perfection and warmth of the event, the respect shown towards poetry and art, the symbolic and significant nature of the tribute, especially the pilgrimage to the mausoleum. For many of them, who did not know the region, this literary journey from sea to mountain range was a beautiful opportunity. They committed the organizers to convene the Third Meeting in 2019.

I find practices

The activity took place on November 29 and 30 of this year, and was attended by the National Prize for Educational Sciences, Dr. Beatrice Ávalos.

Within the framework of the work carried out by the Integrated Management of Pedagogies Unit (UGIP), the IV Meeting of Supervision of Teaching Practices and II Meeting of the National Network of Teacher Coordinators and Teachers was held at the University of La Serena. FID Practice Supervisors. The event was attended by representatives from the Arturo Prat University, University of Los Lagos, University of Atacama, Metropolitan University of Educational Sciences and Universidad Católica del Norte, as well as actors from the school system of the Coquimbo Region.

practical meeting2During the first day, various presentations were presented related to the different perspectives of practices obtained by higher education institutions and by professionals who participate in educational establishments. In this way, Jessica Contreras, General Coordinator of Practices of the Faculty of Human Sciences of the U. Arturo Prat, spoke, who emphasized the achievements and challenges that pedagogical practices have entailed in her institution.

On the other hand, there was the experience gained by a student in professional practice, Álvaro Castillo, who carried out his practice in the town of Río Hurtado within the framework of the agreement established between said commune and the UGIP. The presentation was accompanied by the vision shared by the tutor professor of the Pichasca School, Adán López, who highlighted his work as a guiding teacher in professional practices in rural spaces. For his part, the UTP head of the Francis School of Coquimbo, Mauricio Tello, referred to the process that involved the creation of the Internship Coordination Office in the establishment, which receives and accompanies students who are in this stage of learning.

practical meeting3Another presentation was given by Dr. Marcela Adaros, an academic from the Universidad Católica del Norte of Coquimbo, who presented the results of the research “Pedagogical Accompaniment received by pedagogy students through logs in the context of the Pedagogical Practice", which aims to describe the type of pedagogical support received by the students of Pedagogy in Philosophy and Religion of the house of studies, through texts written in the logs, and its relationship with the purposes of the Practice Integrated Pedagogical.

At the close of the day, the academics from the University of Los Lagos, Claudio Esparza and Mónica Ávila, contextualized the model of reflective practices carried out within the framework of the Institutional Improvement Plan 1503 of said institution, mainly highlighting the difficulties faced.

practical meeting4The second day of this meeting began with the presentation “Evolution of practices in teacher training: the journey and the challenges of the future”, given by the UGIP Practice Coordinator, Dr. María Cecilia Ramos. “The work sessions of these two days have allowed us to know what have been the main advances made in the member universities of the network, their projections, future challenges and how to face them together,” she emphasized.

This meeting also had the participation of the Executive Board of the National Network of Professors, Coordinators and Supervisors of Initial Teacher Training Practices (FID), whose members pointed out that it is important for the State universities to collaborate, participate and strengthen themselves together. “I am very happy, very satisfied with this activity. The way they organized this meeting was a surprise. Yesterday, both in the morning and in the afternoon, was very beneficial, we learned many things and then in the workshop we were able to learn more about the other universities that are participating,” said Patricia López, members of the Board.

New Law on Teacher Professional Development

practical meeting5As a special guest at the meeting, there was the presence of Dr. Beatrice Ávalos, National Prize for Sciences in Education, who presented the keynote talk “New Law on Teacher Professional Development: Accumulated experience and challenges of implementation”, in which addressed the conceptual framework and the critical issues identified by the initial teacher training study carried out in 2010, and how citizens began to care about teachers, which finally led to the creation of Law 20.903.

Among the points analyzed, he referred to the importance of financing granted by higher education institutions to initial teacher training. “In the study we carried out, we found that with luck teachers who are in their professional practice receive two visits from a supervisor in the semester, and they rarely meet back at the university to discuss among themselves and with their guiding teacher about the experience they are having. When we did the follow-up study, we did it with a sample of 155 teachers who were about to enter the final internship, and we found that only 52 responded to us after the internship, because they did not meet again as a course group at the university when they finished. This means that there is no process of analysis of what is happening in the course group (...). For this reason, it is important to provide more funding, because it implies giving more hours to those who supervise the practices and more time so that they can make more than two visits, since in almost all good systems, teachers visit at least once a week. to its practitioners, we should at least visit it four or five times a semester (...). It is your job as a university, if you monitor your students well, to ask and find out if they are having mentoring or not, and if each of the programs did this, we would have more truthful information to be able to feed public policies." concluded the doctor of education.

journalism week

One of the first activities programmed by the Student Center was the talk: “Today's Journalism and Its Local Scope”, given by the editors of Semanario Tiempo, Víctor Hugo Villagrán, and Diario El Día, Eleazar Garviso.

In order to commemorate another year of life since its creation in 1993, the opening ceremony of the 25th anniversary activities was held to remember this important milestone within the University of La Serena.

Among the guests were the authorities of the ULS, such as the Academic Vice-Rector, Dr. Jorge Catalán, the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences, Dr. Luperfina Rojas, the Academic Secretary of the macro-unit, Mg. Carolina Rodríguez, the Director of the Department of Social Sciences, Hernán Cortés, the Director of the degree, Mg. Cristian Muñoz, academics, officials and students of all levels.

“It is quite significant for our School to be able to generate these instances, not only for the recreational and recreational activities that undoubtedly contribute a lot to the comprehensive training of our students, but there are also perspectives on our own professional performance in the scenario that we are currently experiencing. I think that the students have been very visionary in developing these activities, planning them and self-managing them,” indicated the School Director.

The person who had words of congratulations for ULS Journalism was the Dean of the FACSE. In addition to highlighting the quality of the professionals who graduated from this undergraduate program, she applauded the level of organization of the students. “This shows the great capacity they have to be able to link the external environment with the University, taking into account the exhibitors who will come, because they are not only worrying about recreational activities, but they are worrying about this very important part that is the training of the professional because the role that journalists have is quite important today, they are opinion leaders who contribute with truthfulness and ethics, a better way to build society,” said Dr. Luperfina Rojas.

On the occasion, the president of the CEC, Felipe Muñoz, and the vice president Fabián Varas also addressed the audience, who spoke about the activities to be carried out during the week, taking advantage of inviting all the students, teachers and officials of the course to Be part of this celebration. “The purpose of Career Week is mainly to commemorate the years of career life and generate spaces for relaxation to share, in addition to the different talks, forums and seminars that we have with the aim of reflecting on various topics that matter to society.” , indicated Muñoz.

One of the first activities programmed by the Student Center was the talk: “Today's Journalism and Its Local Scope”, by the editors of Semanario Tiempo, Víctor Hugo Villagrán, and Diario El Día, Eleazar Garviso, who discussed together with the students the motivations that both have had within the journalistic field to be able to develop as professionals and the importance that the social role of the journalist has had in giving voice to sectors of society that are not heard. Also discussed was the way in which these media, with a large presence in the Coquimbo Region, have adapted to digital platforms to be in line with new technologies without abandoning the public that still prefers printed paper.

In this way, the CEC and the School Directorate coordinated a series of exhibitions, talks and seminars that aim to bring together the student community around social problems that concern students and national and regional events.
