The activity was framed within the complementary activities carried out by the Diploma in Didactic Innovation in Initial Teacher Training, taught by the Integrated Management Unit of Pedagogies (UGIP).

Various instances of academic reflection were carried out in the premises of the study house, which were led by the international guest, Dr. Julio César Arboleda, director of the Ibero-American Network of Pedagogies (REDIPE), an organization in which teachers work collaboratively, educational institutions and agents from various countries.

In the first instance, Dr. Arboleda held the discussion "Development of educational research in Latin America: possibility of joint lines of research" in which the members of the UGIP team participated. The event allowed us to contextualize the work carried out by REDIPE, mainly in the area of research, and also explained the educational model promoted by the organization.

grove2Secondly, the expert gave the talk "Cognitive maps to enhance learning in Higher Education" aimed at ULS teachers and pedagogy students. On the occasion, he referred to the edifying meaning of pedagogy, and how we should move towards the educational understanding of knowledge to encourage critical and purposeful reflection in students.

“Thought is a human faculty, but it simply exists as potential, that is, all human beings are potentially carriers of thought, but the development of thought is another topic. Many people are very intelligent, but they do not know how to think, just as many people know how to teach, but they do not know how to educate (...) The international consensus that exists about educating refers to generating opportunities and capacities to train people; That is the most important thing about educating, that is why there are teachers who are good at teaching knowledge, but they do not train people or they think that teaching well is enough and that this is educating (...) Educating requires the act of teaching, but it is only a moment of the process” explained the academic.

In this way, the guest referred to the fact that the fundamental aspects of being able to educate fundamentally lie in training people so that they grow as individuals, both in their physical and psychological dimensions. “The function of educating is not only that of schools, but it is a function of other social institutions, such as the media, the family or the church (…) it should not only be done by the teacher and that is why the educational model of The school must be based on the function of educating, because that is the intrinsic property of the education process (...) In that sense, each of the members of the educational community have the purpose of educating and educating themselves, since the student many Sometimes it also educates the teacher and not only the teacher the student,” said Dr. Arboleda.

grove3Thought as the engine of intelligence

Other concepts developed by the director of REDIPE was that of educating in intelligence and the importance of training through the development of thought. “Thinking is the potential that allows intelligence to be guided so that the individual can proceed in a better way in the corresponding scenario (…) So a challenge of the curricula is to help in the development of students' thinking, since Thinking is based above all on operations, on representations and on strategies to be able to strengthen the talents that we have in order to be able to make use of them and guide them in a better way (...) It is important that the workshops that we give to teachers are experiential, because there “We are embodying pedagogy in the classroom, because pedagogy has to do with the reflections that the school and the subjects make about their own pedagogical practice,” he noted.

For the rest, he stated that in pedagogy processes it is important to raise the difference that exists between understanding and understanding, and to do so one must resort to experience and demonstrate it through its application and use. “Pedagogy requires the teacher and the school to reflect on whether the teaching processes are being carried out in light of the function of educating, that is, the training of better people. Therefore, developing thinking must be accompanied by the function of educating. How to use those thoughts for edifying purposes. More than developing skills, we must develop understanding, use knowledge with an edifying meaning. Teaching for understanding implies that the teacher must also educate himself,” she emphasized.

grove4Cognitive maps as an education strategy

Finally, the speaker led the talk “Creative thinking in the renewed curriculum: how to develop it in the classroom?” to the students of the Diploma in Didactic Innovation at the FIP, in which he presented some strategies to design workshops that mobilize understanding in students.

“A strategy to welcome the student is to take didactic pauses, that is why as teachers we must make maps of our classes, which are representations that make the general content present in certain categories. The Cognitive Map is the general representation of the territory of the information that we are going to deliver, we organize it in a structure. That is why it is important that teachers work on cognitive maps and that students also work on them. It is important that in methodologies classes they teach their students how to make these maps (...) Comprehensive edifying pedagogy suggests that it is important for teachers to make their class a laboratory for demonstrating knowledge and, above all, a laboratory for contributing to construction of better worlds”, concluded Dr. Arboleda.
