Rector Avilés congratulated the students, expressing that “it is an honor for us to receive them. They are an example for many young people. Likewise, the highest university authority valued the vocation, dedication and effort of its professors, who accompanied the students in this event that took place in the Raúl Bitrán room of the ULS Central House.
In this regard, Dr. Catalina Cvitanic, highlighted that there are establishments that repeat themselves year after year in this instance, “and there is clearly an influence from the teachers, who are very committed to the Olympiad and to the training of young people. And in the case of new schools, it implies an effort by the teacher to guide his students and we hope that this can be maintained over time.”
For his part, the regional manager of the Olympiad, Carlos Carvajal, stated that every year this event “generates great expectations among students and teachers in the region. With this national activity we have managed, over the years, to encourage establishments, both municipal and private and subsidized private, to compete with students from all over Chile, acquiring an enriching experience by meeting other students who have the same concerns and thinking. about mathematics."
The Mathematics Olympiad aims to discover talented young people who are studying secondary and basic education, to offer them the opportunity to expand their scientific and cultural horizons.
Students from 8th grade to 4th grade from nearly 30 schools participated in the regional phase, which selects the best for the national grand final. The competition is divided into: Minor Level (under 15 years old) and Major Level (15 years and older).
