Through this project of the Institutional Development Fund (FDI) - Student Entrepreneurship Line, a group of students seeks to culturally and artistically value a high-traffic pedestrian path inside the ULS.
Various reflections and thoughts made by different personalities are captured in a series of plaques printed on concrete specially designed for high traffic, in what was called “Senda Viva”, a path of art and culture that revalues the meaning of a pedestrian path. university. The project, inaugurated within the framework of the XXXVII anniversary of the University of La Serena, was born from a group of students and seeks to contribute, in an artistic way, to the preservation and dissemination of human thought.
The opening ceremony, which was attended by institutional authorities, led by the Rector of the ULS, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, the Vice-Rector for Economic and Administrative Affairs, Eng. Waldo Valencia, directors of different units and students participating in the project, was the right moment to deliver a message of culture and explain how this idea was created, which captures excerpts from famous phrases on a route where students usually travel.
The student of the Pedagogy degree in Biology and Natural Sciences, Melissa Bermúdez, explained that one of the essential ideas of this path is “to contribute, in an artistic way, to the preservation and dissemination of human thought that induces the user of the road to stop walking, read and reflect on the meaning of that phrase. With this, it is hoped that people will no longer see this pedestrian path as mere pieces of gray concrete, but rather feel that they are walking on the pages of a great book that permeates the force of human rationing, that is, that they are walking on a 'Living Path'. ´”.
During the speeches, and prior to the traditional ribbon cutting, Eng. Waldo Valencia, thanked the way in which this project was carried out, highlighting that at the University life is not only made in the classrooms but also in other university spaces, and even more so if they are with a meaning that contributes to culture. It is for the same reason that given the contribution of 9 million pesos made by the Ministry of Education to the project, the institution decided to grant funds that totaled around 14 million pesos, showing that the university also chooses to support initiatives that feed the student culture.
It should be noted that 35 phrases or extracts from them were selected, identifying Chilean and foreign personalities in the area of knowledge, with emphasis on highlighting those areas represented in the academic units that make up the University of La Serena. The Path begins at the front of the Irma Salas Central Library and ends at the Andrés Bello Campus, passing through the tunnel that connects the Ignacio Domeyko and Isabel Bongard campuses.
