Tailings deposit design workshop for small mining was developed with great participation

The activity was supported by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of La Serena and brought together actors from across the region in the framework of small-scale mining, its implications, benefits, developments and work processes.

In order to strengthen ties with the community and work cooperatively, the Faculty of Engineering of the University of La Serena held the “Tailing Deposit Design Workshop for Small Mining”, developed in agreement with the Seremía de Minería, and organized by SERNAGEOMIN and SONAMI.

During the activity, which brought together actors from the public and private sector, academics, students and graduates of the Civil Mining Engineering and Mining Execution Engineering careers, the contribution of information was addressed within the framework of Supreme Decree 248, which says relation to the regulations for the approval of projects for the design, construction, operation and closure of tailings deposits.

For the Regional Director of SERNAGEOMIN, Jorge Valenzuela, this instance is valuable since it sought to inform about the new provisions in pursuit of the good performance of small mining, taking into consideration all the actors involved that allow the good development of the activity.
This activity is one of the many generated by the Environmental Linkage area of ​​the ULS Faculty of Engineering, which responds to the commitment of the University of La Serena to the community where it is located.

For the Manager of the National Mining Society, SONAMI, Alejandro Vásquez, these meetings are essential to inform future professionals, as well as entrepreneurs who are immersed in this productive area. He also thanked the university for its willingness and was emphatic in pointing out that these instances will continue in the established work dynamic.
