The activities were attended by university and faculty authorities, academics, parents and relatives of the graduates of the University of La Serena.

297 new professionals graduated from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of La Serena, in a solemn ceremony held last Friday, October 06, in the Aula Magna of the Ignacio Domeyko Campus.

In total, 26 architects, 41 mining execution engineers, 33 mechanical execution engineers, 5 food engineers, 43 construction engineers, 21 civil engineers, 18 environmental civil engineers, 54 mining civil engineers, 41 industrial civil engineers and 15 engineers civil mechanics, received their degree, thus forming part of the select class of 2017 graduates of the ULS.

graduation ing2On the occasion, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Mario Durán, emphasized to the graduates that “our job is not only to provide them with knowledge and skills, but we also hope to have transmitted to them attitudes and values ​​that make them better people. The commitment of the Faculty of Engineering to you is to continue working on the process of change that allows us to continue training upright professionals, seeking to generate development strategies in the fields of engineering and architecture, offering continuing education through postgraduate programs. and postgraduate, with the main objective of forming world-class human capital.”

Likewise, Dean Durán pointed out that “it has been a long process on your part, however, we cannot fail to mention that the crowning of the success achieved, in addition to your effort and perseverance, is also due in large part to the support and trust deposited in you by your parents, family members and loved ones, and also, why not say it, by those teachers who transmitted to you with great dedication their professional experiences and who guided and supported you to achieve your highest aspiration: finish your degrees, obtain your titles and become successful professionals.”

As every year, the Faculty of Engineering distinguished the best graduates of each career in this class, distinctions that went to the graduates: Karen Anacona Díaz (Architecture), Felipe Verdejo Arancibia (Mining Execution Engineering), Jean Carlo Tapia Gómez ( Mechanical Execution Engineering), Leyla Covacevich Flores (Food Engineering), José Mundaca Villegas (Construction Engineering), Lukas Ramírez Calderón (Civil Engineering), Nora Gómez Órdenes (Environmental Civil Engineering), Jorge Cortez Campaña (Civil Mining Engineering) , Sebastián Latin Pereira (Mechanical Civil Engineering), Héctor Narea Mery and Ricardo Orrego Rivera (Industrial Civil Engineering).

It should be noted that the graduate Jorge Cortez Campaña obtained the University of La Serena Award, established by the Rector's Office and awarded to the graduate of each Faculty with the highest grade average of his class. The award was presented by the Academic Vice-Rector, Dr. Jorge Catalán, on behalf of the Rector of the University of La Serena, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés.

It should be noted that the graduate Jorge Cortéz also won the award given each year by the College of Engineers of Chile, Zonal Norte, for standing out for his academic and personal qualities.

graduation ing4Meanwhile, the College of Architects of Chile AG and the College of Civil Builders of Chile AG also awarded Karen Anacona Díaz, a graduate of Architecture, and José Ignacio Mundaca Villegas, of Construction Engineering, respectively.

The Chilean Chamber of Construction was also present with the award to José Ignacio Mundaca Villegas.

In addition, the College of Execution Engineers, AG presented the award to Jean Carlo Tapia Gómez, from the Mechanical Execution Engineering career.

While the INVECC Foundation, belonging to the Department of Civil Works Engineering, presented its traditional award to the best graduates of the Construction Engineering and Civil Engineering careers, awarded this year to José Ignacio Mundaca Rivera and Lukas Ramírez Calderón.

Finally, graduates Stefanía Castañeda Gómez (Construction Engineering) and Malehivy Santander Callejas (Environmental Civil Engineering) addressed some emotional words on behalf of the new professionals who graduated from the school.
