Developing actions, strengthening ties and contributing to the dissemination of activities that both parties carry out is the main objective of the collaboration agreement signed between the First Environmental Court and the University of La Serena. The agreement was signed by the Chief Minister and President of the Court, Daniel Guevara, and the Rector of the ULS, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, in a ceremony held at the Central House of the state campus.

In this way, the University of La Serena is expected to collaborate in projects, plans and research programs in science and bilateral development, as well as in topics of environmental law, natural resources, biodiversity, water resources, energy, environment, territory, native peoples and sociocultural heritage.

sign agreement2The cooperation of the university institution in matters or events related to the jurisdictional field is also considered, both from the Law degree and other sciences, and its faculties and schools. Added to this is the development of a program for the exchange of specialists and information on specific Court-University topics, and the development of joint research studies, among other initiatives.

The agreement also contemplates that the Court facilitate the incorporation of students to carry out thesis, internships and professional practices. At the same time, the development of a program of workshops, seminars and conferences on topics of current relevance in the environmental field is planned; and the participation of specialists from the Court in talks and master classes for students and teachers.

The President of the Court, Daniel Guevara, pointed out that the signing of this agreement “is a way of seeing the importance, complex and collaborative thinking, where universities like La Serena have highly significant advances in issues associated with the development of engineering. , to the knowledge of sciences linked to energy, the study of water resources, water scarcity and many other relevant topics that make it necessary for a Court, which is new, based in Antofagasta, but which has jurisdiction that includes the Coquimbo Region, in resolving issues, some simple and others very complex, being able to resort to specialized knowledge, with the reserve, the protection, the knowledge of a university center of excellence such as the University of La Serena. And that also allows for bilaterality, because our Court remains open for internships, training, conferences and other developments that we can do jointly.”

For Rector Avilés, meanwhile, the agreement signed is a source of pride for the University. “It is an honor for us to be able to have signed this agreement, which allows us to fulfill our mission of being a State university that is at the service of the country,” said the highest university authority, adding that the agreement will allow us to “better support the training of our students, along with the realization of a series of joint projects and activities.”
