Participation was carried out within the framework of the internationalization strategy promoted by the central administration, whose objective is to promote cooperation agreements with HEIs from different parts of the world.

Representatives of the University of La Serena participated in the 2018 NAFSA Congress in Philadelphia, USA. "We are pleased to report that we were part of this great event, which as an institution allowed us to share practices of internationalization of higher education," said the Dean (s) from the Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Sandra Santander.

Under the motto “Diverse voices, shared commitments”, the 2018 NAFSA international fair brought together more than 9.500 people from 3.500 universities in 110 countries around the world. "This event allowed the ULS and other higher education institutions to present their educational offers, establish contacts with other related institutions, explore opportunities for academic and student mobility," reported the representative of the Faculty of Humanities before the ULS International Relations Commission and academic of the Department of Arts and Letters, Elvis Campos.

nafsa2The University of La Serena participated in this fair as part of the Learn Chile pavilion along with 18 other national institutions. Thus, from May 27 to June 01, representatives of the ULS held working meetings with academics from the United States, Italy, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Peru, Colombia, among the most relevant, in order to promote openness of new cooperative relations and joint internationalization actions or strengthening existing ones.

As explained by the Dean(s) of the Faculty of Humanities, this fair also included the holding of a large number of workshops, courses and private meetings of various kinds. In addition, plenary meetings were held with international personalities such as Terry Gross, Joyce Banda and Laura W. Bush.

"Since 2017 we have been working in alliance with Learn Chile, a program that allows us to work on the positioning of our institution abroad, strengthening the internationalization of the offer of higher education programs that we have in force," explained the Rector of the University. from La Serena, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés.

nafsa3The Rector added that "this work is integrating the four Faculties, which have defined their respective representatives, with whom a development strategy for the internationalization of the ULS is being developed that responds to the needs of the academic units." .

The authority took the opportunity to thank the Dean(s) of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Sandra Santander, and also the academic of the Department of Arts and Letters, Elvis Campos, for their willingness to represent the institution at this important meeting. international, an instance where he emphasized they had an outstanding participation.
