The Gabriela Mistral and Gregorio Cordovez high schools will be the institutions that will begin to work with the University of La Serena in the Technological Research and Innovation Laboratory.

Based on the joint work of the departments of Biology, Education and Mathematics, the University of La Serena created the Technological Research and Innovation Laboratory (LIITEC ULS), with the purpose of strengthening institutional capacities for research, innovation and implementation focused technological resources of public appropriation for education in Natural Sciences, relevant to the needs and challenges that teachers in the Coquimbo Region have demonstrated.

This initiative, which has funds from the Ministry of Education and has been carried out since the beginning of 2018, is in the implementation stage, and to achieve the proposed objectives it has determined to work jointly with educational establishments that want to develop joint research.

liitec2This is the case of the Gabriela Mistral and Gregorio Cordovez high schools, both belonging to the Gabriel González Videla Municipal Corporation, which signed a collaboration commitment to be able to participate in certain moments of the LIITEC-ULS project, of which the program Coordinator of Pedagogy in Biology and Natural Sciences, Mg. Francisco López is the Executive Director.

The LIITEC-ULS project is aimed at researching, innovating and implementing educational technological resources, through the promotion and implementation of experiences of creation and development of educational technological resources (RTE) for education in Natural Sciences. The aim is to enable their integration and feedback, through the articulation of university and school realities, simultaneously exploring the representations of said contents in schoolchildren and undergraduate students.

The cooperative work between the establishments that signed the commitment together with LIITEC ULS will be to carry out technological transfer of teaching and learning experiences in science, supported with technology designed by the laboratory; strengthen teaching skills in the use of educational technological resources in Natural Sciences; participation of teachers and students in co-design processes of educational content in natural sciences; collaboration in the areas of validation, implementation and research of educational technological resources.

The objective of LIITEC is to generate public appropriation goods that support the teaching and learning of sciences. Some products are mobile applications and others consist of the development of collaborative repositories - Cellfie-ULS is an example of this - where in this area the articulation will be with school, scientific and citizen collaboration initiatives.
