Authorities, managers, academic and non-academic officials and special guests participated in the traditional National Holidays toast, organized by the University of La Serena, through its Human Resources Department.

national holidays2During the activity and after the intonation of our national anthem, the Director of Human Resources, Dr. Héctor Bugueño Egaña, gave a welcome greeting to those present and pointed out that celebrating the National Holidays is a "way of building our cultural identity of transgenerational way; This is how the sense of Chileanness is built, in the decantation of what generates inclusion for us and that still gives us a certain univocity. Traditions and customs constitute a genuine opportunity to revitalize our affective ties within our families, among whom we share work spaces, among whom we enjoy the value of friendship”.

Dr. Bugueño also indicated that “by remembering our origins, our roots, by rescuing the legacy of our ancestors, we are participating in a process of transferring our cultural heritage. And preserving culture is a valuable catalyst and soul-healing exercise, but also a promise to strengthen our identity”.

The celebration of the 2018 National Holidays at the ULS included the participation of the folkloric group “Cuarta y Lote” and the presentation “Fantasía de cuecas” by students of Pedagogy in Basic General Education (Vanessa Contreras, Jhendelyn Ramos, Arlin Ramos, Nicole Rabanal, Macarena Castillo, Constanza Godoy and Nadia Soler), who delighted the attendees with their music and dances, respectively.

national holidays3As in previous years, the Human Resources Department organized the traditional popular games, so that the members of the community could enjoy various cultural expressions. This is how Loreto Villalobos and Nicolás Plubins (mechanical bull), Natia Araya and Fernando Sotomayor (spinning top), Sandra Sacre and Miguel Araya (horseshoe shot), and Sandra Tarifeño and Fernando Sotomayor (emboque) were winners and received gifts from the university authorities.

There were also prizes for the couples who participated in the cueca competition, which were awarded by authorities and representatives of the Mutual de Seguridad.

The commemoration activity concluded with the delivery of refreshments to all those present.
