Graduates and employers from the area participated in a breakfast to discuss topics related to the labor field and learn about the new SIGIT platform.

In order to establish links between employers in the communications area and learn about the issues relevant to the work field of journalists, the School of Journalism, attached to the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences of the ULS, together with the Graduate Monitoring Office, organized the work table called “Linkage with the regional: communications and their employability.”

The meeting, which took place in the meeting room of the School of Journalism, brought together more than 20 professionals who work in the areas of communications, whether in written media, audiovisual media, TV press and also in the sector. public, in terms of communication strategy.

Cristian Muñoz gave a presentation on the new structure of the degree's curricular framework and emphasized the graduation profile of professionals who graduate from the University of La Serena. He also thanked the presence of all those who attended the invitation and highlighted the way in which this first meeting marks milestone 1 of many more to come, since the idea is to continue with these meetings, with the idea of ​​being able to know from the first source the requirements of the labor field that, in his own words, are of a broad multidisciplinary spectrum and, likewise, maintain a positive synergy between two units that then systematize processes.
 
Likewise, the presentation of the System Platform for the Management of Information and Indicators of Graduates (SIGIT) was carried out. In the presentation by the person in charge of the Manager Monitoring Office, Pamela Roco, and the employability support professional, Viviana Vásquez, it was explained how employers can follow up on their requirements to the institution, corresponding to internships and offers. labor, carrying out a reliable process that is one hundred percent relevant to the profiles required at the time of hiring.

breakfast journalism3Regarding this topic, the journalists present stated that the SIGIT platform is a good option to maintain the link with the university and thus have the opportunity to follow up on the requirements of the different companies dedicated to communications, whether for job positions and professional or observation practices. This was evidenced by the general editor of Diario El Día, Eleazar Garviso, who highlighted that this platform will be of great help for the search for professionals and the follow-up that is required when applying for internships.

This first meeting kicks off future activities, which for the participants themselves, was an instance not only of work and updating, but also of camaraderie and contact networks, emphasizing that these meetings are always important in professional practice. This was stated by the SENDA journalist, Felipe González, who thanked the invitation and also emphasized that “establishing these relationships keeps us up to date with what is happening in the academy and the changes that the University is experiencing.”

At the end of the presentation, the professionals were able to maintain an active and relaxed conversation with the organizers of the meeting and established a first approach to the established commitments, such as maintaining the link between the field of work, academia and knowledge of the institutional management, which directly benefits students and future professionals of the university.
