Dr. Carlos Calvo donates 380 books from his collection to the Irma Salas Central Library

The educator, who recently accepted the retirement incentive law, delivered this material to the university library.

In an emotional ceremony, the PH.D. in Education from Stanford University and former tenured professor at the University of La Serena, Carlos Calvo, who recently benefited from the retirement incentive law, made an important donation of 380 books from his collection to the Irma Salas Central Library of the ULS.

This donation, which is part of a new stage in the life of Doctor Calvo, from his perspective, will allow students and teachers to nourish themselves with the knowledge of the texts that accompanied him for so many years in his life of teaching, research and impetus for reading in general. “The books are a bridge between my research study work and the university, and the logical thing is that they stay here, where they can be used,” he said.

carlos bald2Dr. Carlos Calvo's presentation was preceded by his biography, presented by professor Ken Matsuda, who took the opportunity to thank the professor for the years he gave to the institution, as well as the dynamic way in which he captivated his students.

Professor Calvo was born in Valparaíso and studied philosophy at the Catholic University of Valparaíso. He is internationally recognized and has published books and academic articles in various countries, where he is also invited to give workshops, talks and conferences, amply demonstrating -as his peers say- the intellectual level that the investigator.

The academic worked for 30 years at the ULS, belonging to the Education Department of the same, where he taught Educational Sociology classes. His interests led him to research, publish and teach Educational Anthropology, Comparative Education, Ethnoeducation, Indigenous Education, Informal Education, School Culture, Adult Education, Literacy, Chaos Theory and Complexity Theories, Cognitive Sciences, Relationship between Oriental Thought and Occidental, Good Teachers, among others.

On the occasion, the head of the ULS Library System, Héctor García, thanked Dr. Calvo for the generous gesture for delivering the more than 300 books, and highlighted his human quality, since this commitment to reading goes beyond of what the collection of books means, but that it delivers and allows the transfer of knowledge.

The books are now available at the Irma Salas Central Library and can be requested by students and teachers.
