Agreement will allow students to carry out their internships in the Canela Health Network

The Municipality of Canela will provide its infrastructure so that students in the health area can make use of them, learn about primary care and acquire fundamental experiences for their professional training.

The students of the Nursing, Kinesiology, Odontology and Psychology careers of the University of La Serena will be able to carry out their basic practices and professional internships in the Community Health Network of Canela, thanks to a teaching assistance agreement signed by the state university and said municipality.

cinnamon2 agreementThanks to this agreement signed by the Rector of the ULS, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés Pizarro, and the mayor of Canela, Juan Bernardo Leyton Lemus, the municipality, through the Department of Health, will provide its infrastructure (clinical fields) so that students can make use of them, get to know primary care on the spot and acquire fundamental experiences for their professional training. Likewise, municipal officials will be available to contribute to this training, which will be of relevant importance in the development of their future professions.

The university institution, for its part, will develop face-to-face training for municipal officials, according to the Annual Training Program (PAC) prepared by the Department of Health.

The signing of the agreement was valued by the Rector of the U. de La Serena, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, who pointed out that the agreement will strengthen the training of students, "promoting spaces for the development of professional practices in other communes and localities of the Coquimbo Region, where young people can perform differently, knowing the other reality of the Health system”.

The highest university authority also highlighted that the alliance established with the Municipality of Canela is one more example of the strengthening of the Link with the institutional environment, "assuming the social responsibility that falls to us as an educational institution committed to the development of the region and its community.

We all benefit from this: the people who will have more professionals working in our commune, and the students of the university institution”.

For the Dean(s) of the Faculty of Sciences, Dr. Héctor Fabián Reyes, this is a great opportunity that is opening up for macro-unit careers "because it allows participation in the training process of our students." And he added that from this agreement "we seal a working relationship and commitment that we hope to maintain for a long time, and also expand it to other areas that have to do with the development of the commune."

University authorities, directors and academics of the ULS participated in the signing ceremony of the agreement held in the offices of the Central House of the state campus, as well as councilors and officials of the Municipality of Canela.
