The activity, framed in the celebration of the 14 anniversary of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences, contemplated diverse presentations and delivery of didactic material elaborated by academicians of the institution.
In the 118 room of the Pedagogy in History and Geography of the University of La Serena, the Seminar Workshop '' Development of Cognitive Abilities and Teaching Resources for History and Geography Learning '' was recently held, which was attended by 50 specialty teachers.
The director of the Department of Social Sciences of the state campus, Dr. Fabián Araya, explained that this is one of the activities linked to the environment that the course develops annually with a network of professors, integrated in its great majority by graduates of the program of undergraduate degree of the University, which also allow support professionals in their teaching role.
That is why the conference included the conferences '' Presence of Indigenous Peoples in History Textbooks '', by Dr. Erika Zúñiga, of the ULS Department of Education, and '' Development of Cognitive Abilities and their Application in Classroom '' (EDUCREA materials), of Mg. Ximena Cortés, from the Dept. of Cs. Social ULS and Catholic English School of La Serena.
In addition, the presentation and delivery to the participants of the books '' Making City and Citizen Participation '' and '' Learning Guides for the Development of Cognitive Skills in Geographic Education '', of the Mg. Carmen Varela, academic from the Depto. of Cs. Social ULS, and Mg. Sandra Álvarez, director of the School of Pedagogy in History and Geography of this corporation, respectively.
The Mg. Sandra Álvarez also gave detailed information to attendees about the 2014 accreditation process of the Pedagogy in History and Geography.
On the other hand, Mg. Juan Carlos Cura, professor of the Department of Social Sciences and The International School, made an invitation to the schools to participate in the month of July in the Youth Parliament 2014 "For Peace and Solidarity", initiative promoted by this unit and the establishment with the support of Diario El Día, and whose purpose is to implement the debate as a way of building knowledge and participation, as a tool for civic education, together with promoting a space for institutionalized dialogue among high school students.
