FACSE graduates 189 new professionals in their careers

The new professors of History and Geography, Janina Craviolatti Avello and Paola Aqueveque Santis, received the “University of La Serena Award”.

In the Aula Magna of the Ignacio Domeyko Campus, the two solemn graduation ceremonies of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences of the University of La Serena were held, a macro-unit that this year graduated 189 new professionals in their careers.

In these emotional events, 27 State professors in History and Geography, 20 journalists, 5 tourism administrators, 12 business administration engineers who were part of a study conciliation program, 61 commercial engineers, 42 auditor accountants and 22 engineers received their degrees. facse titula2On the occasion, the Academic Secretary of the FACSE, Mg. Carolina Rodríguez Malebrán, representing the Dean, Dr. Luperfina Rojas Escobar, addressed those present, highlighting that “being a professional is a dream for many young people in our country and not all of them manage to reach that goal, but those who do surpass the obstacles have, without a doubt, their reward today.”

The academic added that these young professionals trained at a state university, “are called to promote and spread a message of peace, trust and tolerance, rejecting any action or speech of hate, fear or rejection and discrimination towards other human beings, even more so in "Today's Chile, multicultural, multicolored, welcomes and provides opportunities to those seeking a better quality of life in our country."

The Mg. Rodríguez also stressed that these graduates “constitute a select group of professionals, who were part of a comprehensive training. One of our main objectives is to train people with an ethical and civic sense, and a commitment to the development of the country. We are sure that you will know how to put all your abilities and skills at the service of the common good. This is our commitment as a public and state university at the service of Chile.”

“The University of La Serena will always be your home, the place that saw you grow in many aspects and that today thanks you for having enriched our institution with your presence in our classrooms,” said the Academic Secretary of the Faculty, who congratulated the graduates and highlighted the role of parents, family and friends in achieving this important achievement.

This year, the “University of La Serena Prize”, an award given to the most academically outstanding student of all the Faculty's majors, went to the new professors of History and Geography, Janina Craviolatti Avello and Paola Aqueveque Santis. This award was presented by the Rector(s) of the ULS, Dr. Alejandra Torrejón Vergara.

Additionally, in these emotional events, the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences, through the Dean, Dr. Luperfina Rojas, presented recognition to the graduates who achieved the best grade averages in their respective careers. The awarded professionals were: Camila Olivares Merino (Journalism), David Pinto Carmona (Business Administration Engineer), Rocío Santibáñez Almarza (Audit), Karla Hidalgo Molina (Commercial Engineer), and Janina Craviolatti Avello and Paola Aqueveque Santis (Pedagogy in History and Geography).

These recognitions are added to those of the College of Journalists, the Emprépolis Foundation, the College of Accountants, the Department of Social Sciences (“Juan Panades Vargas” award) and the La Misión College, whose representatives presented distinctions to the outstanding graduates in their careers. While the School of Commercial Engineering and Equifax awarded the award called "Performance and contribution to curricular and entrepreneurship tasks" to the former student, Daniela Pallero Castillo.

Finally, Catalina Cortés Vergara (Eng. in Business Administration) and Felipe Pastén Pizarro (Audit), representing the graduates of the FACSE courses, addressed a few farewell words at these 2018 graduation ceremonies.
