Felipe Muñoz presented “La Flota”, a collection of fanzines that he made this year with the members of the group.

In the Television Studio and within the framework of the Career Week activities, the third year student, president of the CEC and member of the group of Independent Photographers of the Coquimbo Region (FIRC), Felipe Muñoz, presented “The Flota”, a collection of fanzines that he made this year with the members of the collective.

On the occasion, the young photographer commented on the work behind each of them and the context on which the authors relied to make known the reality that they wanted to portray through the camera, such as the progress of the constructions in Coquimbo. , I remember them from childhood, the life of a lonely older adult, the skaters who burst into public spaces, the Elqui valley, etc.

“There was a need to survey images in the region and generate authorial works,” Muñoz said during the talk when talking about the common goal they had to give life to the fanzines called “La Flota.” In addition, he indicated that between 2015 and 2017 there were conversations between the members of the collective about how to materialize the idea of telling the stories that happened in different parts of the region in a national context and that the instance was born last year during the Festival. ARC in a workshop together with the Spanish photographer and director of the editorial project La Visit, Miguel Ángel Felipe.

Self-management has been the key hallmark of this group of photographers and, as Felipe explained during the conversation with the public, “we saw in the community a way of working without having to depend on institutions and/or organizations.” For this reason, they were in charge of the entire process of compiling their files, selecting the material that would go into each fanzine, printing and final assembly of the works. “It was a work of peers, I edited the work of a colleague and another edited mine,” he explained about the dynamics that exist within the collective.

The fanzines were launched under the 'photosingle' format that assimilates the vinyl singles that were very popular between the 60's and 70's and that evoke the nostalgia that exists around these objects, giving them a collectible object value. Among the authors who worked on “La Flota” are “Fosfeno” by Juvenal Munizaga, a former student of the program, “Abordaje” by Ricardo General, “Receso” by Tatiana Alfaro, “Ciudad Fisura” by Juan Pablo Martínez, “ Fado” Fran Núñez, “Still t13” by Elde Gelos, “Chupe” by Ricardo Miranda, “El Valle” by Andrés Larraín and “Patín” by Felipe Muñoz himself.

Finally, once the exhibition was over, Felipe was grateful for the opportunity to be able to present the work of FIRC at the School of Journalism. “This was a super important event for me and one that I had wanted to do for a long time. Although we have presented the work in different places, it was significant to be able to show it at my school, together with my classmates and teachers and for them to know this side of me. and the photographers who seek to enhance the theme of the image and make a critique through it of what is happening in the region and in the country.”
