The book summarizes the effort of several years of work, which has led its author to develop theoretical and practical approaches about subjective theories, trying to differentiate them in a complex spectrum of concepts and related theories used in psychology.

“Interpretation and Change of Subjective Theories” is the title of the new book by the Academic Vice-Rector of the University of La Serena, Dr. Jorge Catalán Ahumada, recently presented in a ceremony attended by university authorities, headed by the Rector, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés Pizarro, directors, academics and officials of the institution, as well as family members of the author and special guests.

book jorge catalan2The publication of the ULS Editorial and which is part of the winning initiatives of the Monographs and Academic Texts Contest of the Research and Development Directorate (DIDULS), has as its main antecedent the book “Subjective Theories: Theoretical and practical aspects” (2010) by the same author and, as Dr. Catalán explains in the introduction of the new text, “it should be considered as a rewriting of said book, which differs from the original version in that it rearranges some themes, complements, reformulates, integrates and formalizes various aspects theoretical and practical, incorporating the contributions of new studies, with the aim of stating a theory of subjective theories that in several aspects differs from the German tradition.

The Academic Vice-Rector explained that “the intention of this book is, to a large extent, doubly daring. On the one hand, clearly, unlike the previous book I wrote in 2010 on the same topic, it aims to formalize and substantiate the proposal of a theory and provide strategies for its practical applications. While on the other hand, it promotes the development of a research program in line with Latin American social identity.”

The book summarizes the effort of several years of work, which has led its author to develop theoretical and practical approaches about subjective theories, trying to differentiate them in a complex spectrum of concepts and related theories used in psychology, both in the field of change psychotherapeutic as that of psychoeducational change. It is precisely the latter, the main focus of interest of the author: in the first instance, in what involves the teaching staff, but from the broad perspective of training processes in general.

During the ceremony held in the offices of the Central House of the state campus, Dr. Catalán, along with thanking the support of various people and units, presented copies of the book to his wife, Ximena Badilla Cofré, on behalf of the family; to the Rector, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, to the Vice-Rector for Economic and Administrative Affairs, Dr. Alejandra Torrejón Vergara, and to the Director of Research and Development, Dr. Amelia Ramírez Rivera, on behalf of the authorities present; and Dr. Fabián Araya Palacios, representing the academics.

The book “Interpretation and Change of Subjective Theories” is now available in the ULS Bookstore (Los Carrera 207, La Serena) and, soon, in various bookstores in the country and for online purchase.
