The state campus will host the fifth 'Meeting of Our America' (ENA), to be held between May 09 and 12 in our country, an initiative that seeks to implement educational improvements with social impact.

La University of La Serena through the support of Rectory, will host the fifth Meeting of 'Our America (ENA 2019)', an initiative that brings together different countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, in favor of generating deep dialogue and reflection on different topics linked to education, conceived as a channel for human development.

The 2019 meeting is held under the slogan “Decolonization, transformation and emancipation”, which calls for generating instances that allow evaluating and reflecting on education, human rights and social justice in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The organizing commission from the University of La Serena is led by the academics of the Department of Education, Silvia López de Maturana and Yanola González, and the former academic Carlos Calvo, both members of the fifth ENA team, in addition to the organization advance , María Thomson and Simón Martínez, who arrived the first week of April to refine details of this plurinational meeting.

For the meeting volunteer, María Thomson, these types of meetings allow us to promote real transformation. “This initiative involves different organizations, people, groups, and social movements from various regions of Latin America and the Caribbean that are interested in a transformation of Education,” she indicated.

Regarding the seal of the fifth meeting, Simón Martínez, Coordinator of the Nuestra América Network, explained that “we are clear that the world as it is, is an unfair and unequal world. We need to build the transition to the other world that we want to live in and education is fundamental, that is why the Meeting of Our America seeks to bring together different struggles that are needed to find that other horizon.”

The meeting is open to the entire community through prior registration on the organization's website: http://www.encuentrodenuestraamerica.org/encuentros/chile-2019/.

An intimate session will be held between May 6 and 8, while on May 9 and 10 the massive meeting will be held at the University of La Serena open to the entire interested community, and on May 12 it will conclude in Santiago with a festival to disseminate successful experiences in favor of the common objectives of the organization.
