The workers thanked the Rector's Office and the Department of Physics and Astronomy for having provided the lenses that sought ocular prevention when enjoying the astronomical phenomenon.

A group of officials from the University of La Serena, motivated by the desire to help and considering the great astronomical event of 2019, took a tour of the Seremía de Desarrollo Social hostel and the Hogar de Cristo hostel to deliver glasses to homeless people, so that they could enjoy the total solar eclipse on July 2.volunteer lenses2

The Coordinator of the Student Welfare Department, Patricia Astroza, the secretary of the Protocol Department, Margot Pizarro, and the specialized assistant of the Department participated in the initiative, which was born from the ULS officials themselves. of Maintenance, Leonel Rojas and the professional of the Protocol Department, Wilson Rojas.

The workers were grateful for the opportunity they had and made a call for solidarity, remaining attentive to continue collaborating in the area of ​​social vulnerability.

“Everyone expressed great joy, feeling included in this great astronomical event. They were also told about the importance for the University of sharing information related to the eclipse and providing security with certified glasses to the entire community,” said Wilson Rojas, who along with the other officials handed out glasses to other homeless people with those they shared back home.
