Pedagogy students prepare to develop the JOMAT ULS 2019 day for eighth graders

The event will take place next Saturday, August 10, and will feature the participation of 10 educational establishments from the regions of Atacama and Coquimbo.

With the aim of generating a meeting space between eighth grade students around the discussion of ideas and experiences that can be developed through the contents of the different workshops that will be held on this occasion, in addition to participation in the Mathematics Olympiads, the third version of the JOMAT ULS day will be held, an activity that is sponsored by the Vice-Rector's Office for Research and Postgraduate Studies of the university and will have 34 students from different pedagogy careers as part of its team of volunteers. of the institution.

For the director of the JOMAT ULS Program and academic of the Department of Mathematics, Professor Diego Contreras, “this activity allows us to strengthen the teaching identity of the pedagogy students who are part of the team of volunteers, who prepare weeks in advance in the planning and development of the different workshops that take place during the day. In addition, it allows the teachers of the educational system who accompany their students during the activity to return to the University, demonstrating the high level of commitment that exists on the part of the graduates with their undergraduate careers.”

Among the scheduled activities, the morning session includes two didactic workshops focused on the contents: “Pythagorean Theorem” and “Multiplicative Principle in Probability”, where the objective is to bring mathematics to everyday situations that in Most of them are not treated in the classrooms of educational establishments. On the other hand, in the afternoon the Mathematics Olympiad competition will be held, where the establishments will participate in the different knowledge tests that will culminate in the Grand Final, crowning the new champion JOMAT ULS, which had the winners in its Previous versions at Colegio Santa Teresa de Illapel (2018) and Liceo Santa Marta de Vallenar (2017).

It should be noted that this year there will be ten educational establishments from the Atacama and Coquimbo regions that will participate in the activity, among which are the Liceo Santa Marta (Vallenar), the American School (La Serena), the Andrés Bello Pampa School (La Serena), the English Catholic School (La Serena), the Sacred Hearts School (La Serena), the Calasanz School (Coquimbo), the María de Andacollo School (Coquimbo) the Miguel de Cervantes School (Coquimbo), the Santa School Teresa (Illapel) and the Teresa Cannon School of Barroileth (Los Vilos).

Those who wish to attend the Mathematics Olympiad competition can do so from 14:30 p.m. to 16:00 p.m. for the Group Stage and then from 17:00 p.m. to 18:30 p.m. for the Grand Final, an activity that will take place on the School premises.
