The day will be held next Saturday, August 10 and will be attended by 10 educational establishments in the Atacama and Coquimbo regions.
With the aim of generating a meeting space between eighth grade students around the discussion of ideas and experiences that can be developed through the contents of the different workshops that will be held on this occasion, in addition to participation in the Mathematics Olympics, the third version of the JOMAT ULS conference will be held, an activity that is sponsored by the Office of the Vice-Rector for Research and Postgraduate Studies of the house of studies and will include students from different pedagogy careers within its team of volunteers of the institution.
For the director of the JOMAT ULS Program and academic of the Department of Mathematics, Professor Diego Contreras, “this activity allows to strengthen the teaching identity of the pedagogy students who are part of the team of volunteers, who prepare with weeks in advance in the planning and development of the different workshops that take place within the day. In addition, it allows the teachers of the educational system that accompany their students during the activity, to return to the University demonstrating the high level of commitment that exists on the part of the graduates with their undergraduate careers ”.
Within the programmed activities, in the morning day, two educational workshops focused on the contents are contemplated: "Pythagorean Theorem" and "Multiplicative Principle in Probabilities", where the objective is to bring mathematics to everyday situations that in most of them are not treated in the classrooms of educational establishments. On the other hand, the Mathematics Olympics competition will take place in the afternoon, where the establishments will participate in the different knowledge tests that will culminate in the Grand Final, crowning the new champion JOMAT ULS, which had as winners in its versions before the Santa Teresa de Illapel School (2018) and the Santa Marta de Vallenar High School (2017).
It should be noted that this year there will be ten educational establishments from the Atacama and Coquimbo regions that will participate in the activity, among which are the Liceo Santa Marta (Vallenar), the American College (La Serena), the Andrés Bello Pampa College (La Serena), the English Catholic College (La Serena), the Sacred Hearts College (La Serena), the Calasanz College (Coquimbo), the María de Andacollo College (Coquimbo) the Miguel de Cervantes College (Coquimbo), the Holy College Teresa (Illapel) and the Teresa Cannon de Barroileth School (Los Vilos).
