The meeting will feature the participation of prominent speakers from the area of ​​social communication linked to science.

With the aim of strengthening the lines of work on research topics and, in addition, generating networks with different universities in the country, during the month of October the “5th Communication and Science Seminar: Demands of the Digital Ecosystem to Society will be held, Contemporary Culture and Science”, organized by the School of Journalism of the University of La Serena.

This national activity will be carried out thanks to the award of the Competition for the development of Scientific Events with funds from the Vice-Rector's Office for Research and Postgraduate Studies (VIPULS), through the Research and Development Directorate (DIDULS).

The seminar will feature the participation of prominent speakers from the area of ​​social communication linked to science and will have two lines of work: on the one hand, communication and science, through scientific journalism (climate change and natural disasters) and communication scientific and technological revolution; and on the other, the digital ecosystem, through freedom of expression in the digital scenario and the themes of corruption, journalism and democracy.

The event will have the collaboration of the universities of Concepción, Viña del Mar and Los Andes, and the PAR EXPLORA CONICYT UCN Coquimbo.

Regarding the importance of these instances, the Director of the School of Journalism, Mg. Cristian Muñoz, pointed out that "these seminars help us to review the state of the art, the state of everything that is research, journalism, communication and also, in this case, giving it the seal with scientific dissemination and in some way "How is this phenomenon being carried out within the eventual media ecosystem that we have today, where we know that many profound transformations have been experienced that have changed the entire way in which communication and journalism were previously done."

In addition, the academic left the invitation open to all those who want to join the initiative. “It is necessary, this is an open invitation to our graduates and all journalists who are in the region to be able to have a critical look at the communications phenomenon within today's context,” he said.

The activity will take place on October 17 and 18 in the TV Studio of the School of Journalism, located on the Andrés Bello Campus (Raúl Bitrán #1305).
