Dear ULS Community:

Along with greeting, I would like to inform you of what was agreed by the Academic Council in its Extraordinary Session No. 12, held yesterday, Monday, December 16, in relation to the end of the Second Academic Semester 2019.

As is known, teaching activities have not been carried out due to the student strike, which has been associated with the national mobilization of the last two months.

However, based on the interest that the FEULS has expressed in implementing a termination mechanism that allows the current semester to be completed in an adequate and sufficient manner, which is also based on the recommendations of the CONFECH, added to the interest of the Teaching Committee , made up of the School Directors and/or Career Coordinators, and the Academic Council to resolve this situation that negatively impacts not only the students but the Institution itself, the form of termination of the second was approved after extensive discussion. semester 2019, which was announced by the FEULS to the respective student bases, who today, Tuesday the 17th, confirmed their approval of the following provisions:

1. In the month of December 2019, academics will prepare materials/readings/documents on the Moodle/PTDI platform, in addition to the work that has been carried out during mobilization time. This period will not be considered as teaching, since it is an exclusive job for teachers.

To ensure that said material is reviewed by students, it will remain on the platform until the end of the Second Semester 2019. It is suggested, for example: the resolution of exercises, guides, projects, preparation of reports, etc. This can be evaluated when in-person work with students is assumed.

2. Regarding the month of January, the 3 weeks will be considered to constitute work non-face-to-face/autonomous student, from January 06 to 24, 2020. This means that There will be no evaluations in the month of January, until the second week of March 2020.

3. A minimum of 2 partial evaluations per subject will be required.

4. No evaluations will be carried out the first week of MarchThat is, it will only be allowed to apply evaluations from the second week onwards. In the case of subjects that, having delivered content in the first weeks of classes of the second semester of 2019 and where only the evaluation remained, these can be carried out in the second week of March.

5. In this special period and form of completion of the second semester of 2019, failures in subjects will not be considered a cause for the elimination of students according to the Study Regime Regulations.

6. Practices and degree exams may be carried out based on these agreements in force from tomorrow, Wednesday, December 18, 2019.

7. Non-attendance in the second semester of 2019 will not be decisive for taking the exam, however, The maximum presence is expected in the months of March and April 2020. In the case of laboratories, practical workshops, etc., that have considered high face-to-face requirements, The criteria established in the Careers or Schools themselves will be maintained.

8.Recommendations:

a) Students and academics are requested to have greater understanding regarding the agreements reached in the Academic Council on December 16, 2019, to achieve the end of the second semester 2019.

b) School Directors and Career Coordinators are requested to attend to the special needs of students who are not able to access the Internet.

c) It is expected that the student body requests the smallest number of protected schedules, with the purpose of complying with the calendar defined for this special situation.

In order to faithfully comply with these provisions, the entire University Community is requested especially to the Deanships and Directorates of Departments, give wide dissemination to these agreements with which teaching activities are resumed at the University of La Serena according to the detail set forth above. Likewise, it is required to carry out a monitoring work so that these measures are fulfilled as defined.
