U. de La Serena signs collaboration agreement with the Mesoamerican University of Chiapas-Mexico

On the occasion it was also announced that the Mexican institution grants the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa to the research scholar and Director of the ULS Department of Education, Dr. Jaime Montes Miranda.

An important collaboration agreement was signed by the University of La Serena with the Mesoamerican University of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas (Mexico) in the context of education. The agreement has the purpose of working together and sharing student experience, through different tools that allow the continuous improvement of future professionals.

mexico agreement4This agreement will allow educational programs to be carried out that meet the training and professionalization needs of future teachers of both entities, based on the results of the research; design lines of research in educational matters; establish academic stay mechanisms for professors and students of both institutions; strengthen the link with the environment and internationalization, among other actions.

University authorities were present at the agreement signing ceremony, led by the Rector of the University of La Serena, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, who was accompanied by the Academic Vice-Rector, Dr. Alejandra Torrejón; the Secretary General, Dr. Lorgio Aguilera; the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Mauricio Godoy; the Coordinator of the International Relations Office, Mg. José Mora; the Director of the Department of Education, Dr. Jaime Montes, who served as a witness to the signing of the agreement, the advisor to the Rector's Office of the Mesoamerican University of San Cristóbal, Dr. Víctor Avendaño Porras, along with academics, officials and special guests.

"For us as the University of La Serena it is a great pride to sign this agreement with the Mesoamerican University of Mexico. This initiative allows us to expand our international ties with prestigious foreign universities, and represents opening new job opportunities in the areas of teaching, research and connection, both for our academics and students, which makes us very happy and urges us to continue working to bring this agreement to life," said the Rector of the ULS, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés.

mexico agreement2Likewise, the representative of the Mexican university, Dr. Víctor Avendaño Porras, appreciated being able to carry out joint work between the organizations "based on the fact that higher education today requires new challenges and greater links at the international level."

Appointment Dr. Honoris Causa

During the agreement signing ceremony, Dr. Víctor Avendaño announced that for his great contribution to education, the training of professionals and research, the Mesoamerican University of San Cristóbal de Las Casas awarded the degree of Dr. Honoris Causa to the Director of the Department of Education of the ULS Dr. Jaime Montes, who excitedly welcomed this recognition and thanked everyone present.

“Without a doubt this has taken me by surprise, it is a recognition that fills me with joy and at the same time with commitment and responsibility, because one always feels that one has not done enough. This recognition is an impetus to continue inspiring other academics through academic work, to join new projects and to add to personal, professional and institutional development,” stated Dr. Montes.
