Academic of the Department of Biology is appointed Director of the Genetics Society of Chile

The researcher, PhD. Cristian Araya Jaime becomes part of the board of directors of this corporation during the period 2020-2022.

During the month of April, the Chilean Genetics Society (SOCHIGEN) appointed its new board of directors for the period 2020-2022, highlighting the presence of the academic from the Department of Biology of the University of La Serena, PhD. Cristian Araya Jaime, who takes over as Director of this important national corporation.

In his role as director, the also researcher at the ULS Multidisciplinary Institute of Science and Technology, will be in charge of representing the genetics society in the northern macro zone, disseminating, compiling and analyzing relevant information for this society.

Regarding the importance and the work involved in assuming this new position, the academic indicated that “this election is important, since the new elected directors are from regions, which helps to decentralize the work of society, improving its territorial representation. As a new board, our first challenge is holding our annual meeting, which on this occasion will be in remote format. “We think this is an excellent opportunity to expand the scope of our work.”

The Chilean Genetics Society is a non-profit corporation that brings together approximately 120 active members who cultivate various areas of this discipline, both in humans, animals, plants and microorganisms, aquatic and terrestrial, with the aim of helping progress and stimulating of research, teaching and dissemination of genetics.

Currently, SOCHIGEN is a member of the International Genetics Federation, an entity that brings together the main Genetics Societies in the world, and the Latin American Association of Genetics (ALAG).
