The Pre-University and Vocational Mathematics Conference of the University of La Serena (JOMAT ULS) announced the dates of its 2020 activities, which given the national contingency will be carried out remotely, thus expanding the possibilities of participation of establishments from all over the world. country.

The first activity will be held on Saturday, September 5, an event that will be aimed at eighth grade students from different educational establishments and that seeks to generate a discussion of ideas and experiences, through the different workshops focused on curricular prioritization presented by the MINEDUC, in addition to participation in the Mathematics Olympiads.

“It is important to continue this activity that year after year allows us to bring together ULS alumni together with their students from different establishments in the north of the country. With the organizing team of students of Mathematics and Computing Pedagogy at the ULS, we met a couple of months ago and thought about how we can contribute to the teaching of mathematics in times of pandemic and we believe that this distance modality will help us "test new technological and methodological tools along with expanding the scope of participation to any establishment in the country since they will be free registration activities," explained Professor Diego Contreras, coordinator of the program and academic of the Department of Mathematics.

On the other hand, the activities continue on October 3 with the day for second half, and finally on November 7 with the day for fourth half.

It is worth remembering that the JOMAT was born in 2012 under the Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation Program “Chilecree”, an instance promoted by the companies Entel, Ericsson and the Desafío de Humanidad Foundation and arose from the concern raised by a group of students from the ULS, on the inequality that exists among young people from sectors of high social vulnerability when entering Higher Education.
