The exhibitors will generate a space aimed at parents, teachers, library managers, education professionals and all interested people.

A new instance of conversation, dialogue and reflection will take place this Thursday, July 30 at 15:30 p.m., where professionals from the University of La Serena and the Gabriel González Videla Municipal Corporation will share about the different related topics to reading, its promotion at school, at home, in the family environment and also in times of leisure or pleasure.

This activity will be directed by professionals Lucía Bolados, coordinator of Reading Promotion and CRA at the Gabriel González Videla Municipal Corporation; Rossana Godoy Lenz, academic in the Early Childhood Education program at the ULS; and Olga Sáez Lepe, ULS Editorial professional, graduate in cultural mediation and reading promotion, and will begin with the imperative approach Reading matters!

For her part, Lucía Bolados highlighted the objective of this conversation and contextualized the figures at the national level. “Today more than ever, people need to understand what they read and have a habit of reading, given the situations we are currently experiencing as a country. Clearly, a more active and, above all, more reflective citizenry is needed and can speak out on any situation, but from a more enlightened perspective, depending on the background. Hence how fundamental reading comprehension and having a reading habit are. We have a deficit in readers at the national level, in terms of standardized tests, we have almost 60% in which there is poor reading comprehension, among students from early childhood to secondary school, so changes must be made from the basics.

From the University of La Serena, this instance is being coordinated by the institutional Publishing House, led by the manager Alejandro Abufom, who highlighted: "The ULS Publishing House - as a non-profit university publishing house - publishes books with a mission linked to the community: sharing knowledge that improves life, democratizing the knowledge that is generated in university cloisters. The fact of making books drives us to strengthen "the book chain", and the readers are there. For this reason, we are always supporting and carrying out activities that encourage and promote reading, this being one of the fundamental pillars of human learning and development".

The activity is open to the community and will be broadcast on the YouTube Channel Linkage with the ULS Media https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWSqqWo-1fC96PHrQo0UUug
