Within the framework of this objective, the Seremi of Agriculture, Francisco Rojas, met with the Rector of the ULS, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, to present the work carried out by the organization in the area, in addition to the work that has been carried out since of the agreement signed between the School of Agronomy of the University of La Serena and the Ministry of Agriculture.

A protocol visit to the Rector of the University of La Serena, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, was made this Wednesday, July 2, by the Seremi of Agriculture, Francisco Rojas, who on the occasion presented the work carried out by the Chilean Forestry Institute (INFOR) in the region, highlighting the need to link the management carried out by this organization with the research work carried out by the University of La Serena.

“We believe it is very important to be able to promote the institutions that give us regional identity and that develop research focused on our territory, such as the University of La Serena. Therefore, this link is something that we are going to support very intensely, trying to ensure that it is carried out in the most convenient terms for both institutions and obtaining the greatest possible return for the benefit of the students, community, researchers and our users, the farmers." Rojas emphasized.

seremi Agri 2On the occasion, the Seremi of Agriculture also presented the regional director of the Chilean Forestry Institute, Sandra Gacitúa, and her work team, who on the occasion expressed that "INFOR's mission is to create and transfer scientific and technological knowledge of excellence to the use of forest resources and ecosystems associated with the products and services derived from them. Also, collect relevant information for the environmental, economic and social sector (...). Therefore, for us, being here is very important because we want to strengthen ties with the University of La Serena, to establish regional positioning.”

Gacitúa added that “we are working to strengthen our headquarters in the region, through applying for funds and seeking support, through the collaboration of other organizations such as the University of La Serena.”

In this regard, the Rector of the ULS, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, emphasized that “we are working jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture through the agreement signed between both institutions, which gave rise to a strategic alliance aimed at supporting the circumscribed activities. to the pillars of strategic development that the region has, such as agriculture; and that in this sense we are very interested in collaborating to the extent of our possibilities and resources.”

On the occasion, Rector Avilés was accompanied by the director of the Department of Agronomy, Dr. Adriana Benavides, who highlighted the task of continuing to work together to enhance the development of research in both institutions.
