Speeches, anecdotes and representative gifts marked the day prepared for weeks by the young people themselves.

With an emotional meeting in which his qualities as a teacher and his closeness with students, his constant concern for young people in training, his great pedagogical vocation, his ethics and his performance as a researcher, the students of Pedagogy in Mathematics and Computing of The University of La Serena honored the academic of the Department of Mathematics, Dr. Avelino Suazo Delgado.

At a surprise lunch with their career colleagues, with heartfelt speeches and significant gifts, the students decided to honor the teacher who will retire in the second semester of 2014.

The student Álvaro Besoaín was in charge of giving a speech in which he highlighted the performance of the teacher who for decades has taught classes in this career and also recalled anecdotes that made students and academics laugh. He talked about his experience in the subjects he took with Professor Suazo, about matrices, vector spaces, theorems, results and stories of mathematicians that he learned in these classes, where “even though I didn't have good grades, I can say that they have been the three branches that have marked me the most in life. I have always liked algebra, right now it is what I like most about mathematics, that beautiful way of doing demonstrations in a single line," said the young man, who ended his speech by expressing that "it has been a privilege to be one of his students.”

“I thank you, you have really surprised me. The time has come when I have to leave, I always thought that way. I fulfill the requirements. I thank you very much for being here with me, with my colleagues, I hope you are great teachers and you will be,” Dr. Suazo expressed on the occasion.
