Seminar - Workshop on Curriculum Renewal of Pedagogy Teaching Programs Organized

Through these actions, it is hoped to build a common vision regarding teacher training at ULS.

This Friday, July 18, the Seminar - Workshop “Curriculum Renewal of the Pedagogy Teaching Programs of the University of La Serena” was held, an activity convened by the Executive Team of the Institutional Improvement Plan for the Initial Training of Teachers of the ULS and which It is part of a systematic work that has been carried out since 2013. This workshop corresponds to the program of activities that will be developed during this year, focused on sharing guiding elements to understand the location of the task of curricular renewal of Pedagogies and its phases, in the regulatory framework of self-regulation of curricular management of the ULS. 

During the beginning of this day, in which School directors, career coordinators and academics from the three faculties that teach these programs were present, the Rector of the ULS, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, highlighted that for the institution it is essential to strengthen of the teacher training programs, “which have historically given an important seal and recognition to our University,” he commented on the occasion, adding that to advance and achieve substantive changes in teacher training, various actions have been promoted, such as the project “Strategic Diagnosis of Initial Teacher Training at the ULS”, the results of which led to an in-depth review of the teacher training curricula, their study programs, their contents and teaching strategies.

renewal seminar 2To this end, in 2013, through the Academic Vice-Rector's Office, a Work Team was formed in charge of preparing the Curricular Renewal of Pedagogies project and, subsequently, a Performance Agreement project was presented to the Mineduc for the development of the “Institutional Improvement Plan to raise the quality of professional performance of teachers trained at the University of La Serena.” This project did not obtain resources from the Ministry, so work is being done on its improvement in order to present it again this year.

In this sense, the executive director of the project, Dr. Geraldo Brown, along with highlighting the high attendance at the meeting, indicated that its purpose is to share and socialize the fundamental elements that guide this renewal process, that is, the results of the diagnoses of the pedagogical careers and the regulatory elements established in the document on the Self-Regulation of Curriculum Management at the ULS. In turn, he specified that it is expected that from this seminar, plus the actions that will have to be carried out next, it will be possible to "build a common vision regarding the training of teachers at the University of La Serena." 

For his part, the academic vice-rector, Dr. Jorge Catalán, emphasized that work is being done on “initial training of teachers in accordance with international, national and also local requirements (…). It is a great task, we are carrying out a large-scale job. We hope that this workshop constitutes a milestone in the commitment of all the entities in charge of carrying out the task of curricular renewal of the ULS Pedagogies, highlighting the political will and responsibility of the process on the part of the Rectorate; strategic support and coordination from the Academic Vice-Rector's Office; the administrative and technical support of the Teaching Directorate, the Teaching Improvement Unit and the Institutional Studies and Planning Directorate; the preparation of the proposal and the conduct of the renewal process by the Steering Committee; and the active and permanent participation of directors and academic staff of each of the units that represent the eleven Pedagogies of our University.

Presentations

During the day, Mg. Bernardo Jopia, provided a global vision of the process and the strategic diagnosis of the Pedagogies within the framework of the FIAC project. While the academic Richard Bravo addressed the updating of the diagnosis of Pedagogies, quantitative and qualitative aspects.

In addition, details of the Performance Agreement for the Curriculum Renewal of Pedagogy Careers and the task schedule were presented. Dr. Pamela Labra, in turn, was in charge of the presentations on the redesign of Pedagogy majors and the self-regulation model of curricular management and the beginning of the survey of the generic graduation profile of the teacher trained at the ULS.
