The background information was delivered at a meeting held at the FEULS offices that was chaired by the Seremi of Housing and Urban Planning Erwin Miranda, and the Rector of the ULS Dr. Nibaldo Avilés.

With the aim of providing details of the work scheduled within the framework of the construction of the Cisternas Axis, the Seremi of Housing and Urban Planning Erwin Miranda and the director of Serviu, Ángelo Montaño, in addition to professionals from the project's technical team, met with representatives of the Federation of ULS Students (FEULS), Pablo Contreras, general secretary, Katherin Casanga, communications secretary and Guillermo Tejada, environment secretary.

This instance in which the Rector of the ULS Dr. Nibaldo Avilés also participated, accompanied by higher authorities and managers, aimed to learn about the construction process contemplated in this work, an opportunity in which the deadlines defined for the different stages were delivered. of the project.

In this regard, the seremi of housing and urban planning, Erwin Miranda, indicated that “the objective of this meeting was to socialize the project with the students, to explain to them what the construction of the Cisternas Axis that starts in August will consist of in terms of the technical details and the mitigation measures, the execution deadlines, the pedestrian connectivity with the Andrés Bello Campus, the issue of the Chirimoyos Orchard and the safeguards aimed at minimizing the inconvenience that may arise as a result of the work.

The authority added that “the meeting was very productive because it allowed us to clarify that it is not a highway but rather a road with urban speeds, and to inform that there will be a change in the location of the work, which will not be carried out near the Huerto de Chirimoyos but in the Pampa Baja sector. In addition, we have delayed the work to have more time for the reproduction of some varieties and to generate better conditions for the transplanting of the custard apples. It was a meeting that served to listen to the students, which was very timely because it allowed us to add something extra to the project, associated with the incorporation of traffic lights with sound and a time display so that pedestrians know when to cross the route. “This is a project that will deliver a high-standard road that will connect the cities of La Serena and Coquimbo and that includes cycle paths in two directions.”

For his part, the general secretary of the FEULS, Pablo Contreras, pointed out that “as a Federation we are very grateful for the instance, both for the attitude and availability shown by all parties. It is the first time that a meeting like this has taken place, for which we are very grateful. The instance was very clarifying, we received all the corresponding information and we hope to bring it to our colleagues because there was a lot of misinformation regarding the project. We expect a good reception from the students and we know that in the event of any inconvenience the authorities are willing to listen to us.”

Contreras added that “as a Federation we know that although some inconveniences will be generated as a result of the work, we must look at the project with a high level of vision because it will bring many benefits in the future and all measures are being taken to avoid most of the inconveniences.” .

Likewise, the communications secretary of the FEULS, Katherin Casanga added that "it was a very fruitful meeting and we clarified many doubts because there were many speculations and we will be able to present the project to our colleagues in more detail, we were very satisfied."
