Two sessions of this event, which last year was held with great success at the state university of the Coquimbo Region, will be led by academics from the University of La Serena.

Academics from the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of La Serena, will be part of the Capricorn COMCA 2014 Mathematics Congress this year, an international scientific event organized by the study houses of the northern macro zone and which will take place from August 6 to 8 at the U. de Atacama.

Copiapó will then be the headquarters of COMCA, which in its XXIII version will have, as usual, workshops, conferences, invited sessions, communications and posters. The sessions scheduled for this year are: “Algebra, Lie Algebra and Control Theory”, “Numerical Analysis of Differential Equations in Partial Derivatives”, “Partial Differential Equations”, “Evolution Equations and Functional Analysis”, “Statistics”, “Probability, Stochastic Analysis and Mathematical Physics”, “Educational Mathematics”, “Graph Theory”, “Matrix Theory and Applications” and “Dynamic Systems”.

The Drs. Margarita García Astete and Catalina Cvitanic Abarca, together with Mg. Palmenia Rodríguez Rojas, all from the Department. of ULS Mathematics, will participate in the “Educational Mathematics” session, an activity organized by Dr. García and Felipe Guevara (University of Atacama).

Meanwhile, Dr. Eduardo Notte Cuello (Dept. of Mathematics) and Dr. Nelson Moraga Benavides (Dept. of Mechanical Engineering) will be part of the session on “Partial Differential Equations” and “Probability, Stochastic Analysis and Mathematical Physics.” ”, the latter coordinated by Dr. Marco Corgini Videla (ULS Mathematics Department) and Soledad Torres (U. of Valparaíso). Let us remember that the 2013 version of COMCA was organized with great success by the University of La Serena, bringing together nearly 200 academics and undergraduate and graduate students from various educational institutions, with exhibitors from Chile, Brazil, the United States and Spain.

The Capricorn Mathematics Congress is an academic scientific dissemination activity that has been carried out since 1991, with the purpose of promoting the development of the different areas of this science in the northern part of Chile.

This multidisciplinary event is organized by the universities of Tarapacá, Arturo Prat, Antofagasta, Católica del Norte, Atacama and La Serena, through their Mathematics departments.
