Artificial Intelligence was the main theme of the V Cognition Meeting of the Faculty of Humanities

The objective of the event was to generate a space for exchange and discussion between national and foreign researchers, professors, students and research groups working on topics related to language, cognition and AI.

The Fifth Meeting “Advances in Research in Cognition and Language in the Age of AI” was held at the ULS premises, organized by the departments of Arts and Letters and Education, the Master's Program in Discourse Studies, the Language Center and the Humanities Teaching Support Center of the University of La Serena. The event was supported by the University's Research and Development Directorate, through the contest: Support for the Conduct of Scientific Events, project No. EC233194, led by Dr. Georgina García, from the Department of Education.

The objective of the Fifth Meeting was to generate a space for exchange and discussion between national and foreign researchers, professors, students and research groups working on topics related to language, cognition and AI. On this occasion, 32 papers were presented on the topic.

The participation of the guest speakers stands out: Dr. Marco Lovón Cueva, from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Peru; Dr. Verónica Lazo García, from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Peru, and Dr. José Funes Rivera, from the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional Francisco Morazán in Honduras.

In his presentation, Dr. Lovón explained the ways in which narratives are configured and instituted that position the dissemination and use of AI in relation to issues about language, languages ​​and applied linguistics; while Dr. Lazo analyzed the contribution of AI to forensic linguistics and Dr. Funes analyzed the way of thinking and writing of the ancient Mayans, which made him reflect on how AI will impact this skill.

Seven researchers from the Millennium Nucleus for the Science of Learning (MinSol) also presented.

The event also had the participation of prominent national and international researchers from: Colombia, Mexico, France, Argentina, Holland and Chile, who shared their findings on the subject and also valued the initiative of the Meeting, especially for its ability to generate spaces for reflection in cognition and language and for their uninterrupted permanence over time.

It is worth highlighting the important representation of ULS researchers, who contributed a diverse perspective to the central theme of the meeting.
