ULS stands out in the La Tercera-Qué Pasa 2023 University Ranking

In the "Research Quality Ranking", the University of La Serena stands out, ranking seventh out of a total of 38 higher education institutions, leading the indicator of "Percentage of works published in first quartile journals (Q1)" .

For 24 years, the national print media has been carrying out this ranking with the aim of providing information that helps young people and their families to make an informed decision before starting the process of applying for higher education.

The La Tercera-Qué Pasa Universities ranking stands out for being an x-ray of the year, of how the perception of quality that the labor market associates with each campus, the quality of institutional management, academics and students, as well as the levels of research achieved by higher education institutions in the last 12 months, these being five dimensions with which the ranking is constructed.

In this framework, the ULS stands out in the market quality perception ranking and the level of knowledge that employers provide to Chilean universities. This year there were 2.900 professionals who participated and their opinions were collected last November by the market research and study company Feedback. Along these lines, the University of La Serena stands out, rising four places, ranking 23rd.

Regarding management quality ranking, the schools must have institutional accreditation. Hence, there are only 48 universities measured, including the University of La Serena, which remains in 32nd place and whose 5-year accreditation guarantees it as one of the most relevant regional and state universities on the national spectrum.

In the ranking of quality of academics, the ULS is ranked 28th and quality of students It remains in 17th place, an area that indicates that 6 out of every 10 higher education students attend one of the 52 universities in force in the country.

When considering the ranking of quality of research, the ULS leads the indicator, ranking 7th, where 65% of the publications made by this house of higher education, between 2018 and 2022, were published in journals that are in the top 25% of each category of knowledge (% publications in Q1) and whose ranking is carried out by SCImago Research Group, considered by the academic and scientific community as the most complete platform in terms of classifying institutions. The group uses Elsevier's Scopus database - the largest source of information in scientific literature with more than 28 thousand journals - to characterize the scientific performance of 22 Ibero-American countries.

The University of La Serena, during the sample period, made 1.229 publications, generating a “Normalized Impact” of 1.40 (40% above the world average), which has to do with the relevance that these have in the international scientific community. .

Positive results that position the U. of La Serena among the best higher education schools at the national level in research matters, the result of strengthening the research-promoting ecosystem developed by the ULS, its institutional strategy in this area and the great work developed by the academic body and technical staff of the University of La Serena.
