“Children's University” holds a workshop at the ULS Teaching Dental Clinic

During the day on Tuesday, January 09, children and young people participated in a tour and a plaster duplication workshop of a dental model in the facilities of the ULS Teaching Dental Clinic.

This visit and workshop are part of the “Children's University” activity, which is organized by the Directorate of Liaison with the Environment and Extension of the University of La Serena (DIVEULS), which has also replicated this format in Astronomy majors. , Architecture, Biology, Journalism, Chemistry and Design, as well as Sports and University Radio.

The person in charge of Academic Management at DIVEULS, Carolina Marincovich, pointed out that this activity “was born as an initiative of students and academics of Pedagogy in Basic General Education, with the aim of providing girls, boys and young people with a space that facilitates the development of social skills and promote the learning of pre-academic skills and concepts during vacations. This is how a cycle of activities of a cultural, artistic, scientific or sporting nature was created, aimed at all ages.”

This workshop consisted of young people, through a didactic and entertaining format, being able to duplicate a dental model in plaster, guided by the teacher and coordinator of the Preclinical Sciences Area, Dr. Christian Castillo, who mentioned that “these activities "They are important, since they bring dental sciences and the career closer to the community, specifically to high school students, which serves as an approach and orientation for their future university choice." On the other hand, he highlighted the great reception by the participants, who showed great motivation and enthusiasm during the development of the workshop.

Regarding this, one of the participants, Fiorella Bittencourt Del Solar, 16 years old and belonging to the commune of Ovalle, said: “I loved it, it is something I would repeat a thousand times, since everything that we proposed to the teacher, He gave us the opportunity to do it and help ourselves.”
