During his presentation, Dr. Andrés Bernasconi highlighted that the new regulations put students at the center.

Within the framework of the 43rd anniversary of the University of La Serena, the university organized the keynote talk “Comprehensive training of people and quality assurance”, by the president of the National Accreditation Commission (CNA), Dr. Andrés Bernasconi.

During his presentation, Dr. Bernasconi referred to the different legal modifications that have been implemented within the institutional evaluation criteria for the accreditation of universities, highlighting points such as the centrality of learning and the student experience, the responsibility of the institution in its entirety and the role of academics in professional training.

In detail regarding the points presented during his presentation, the president of the CNA highlighted ideas such as putting students at the center, carrying out training that contributes to regional development and the description of achievement levels under a criterion in levels 1 2 and 3.

Regarding the talk given by Dr. Bernasconi, the ULS Rector, Dr. Luperfina Rojas, indicated that “it is a pleasure to have the presence of the president of the CNA, who gave us the new accreditation criteria and standards from the first source. Our university has been working since last year to improve its weaknesses and enhance its strengths. In the month of May we are going to officially launch this institutional accreditation process that is transcendental for the university project and that brings together all of us, so we are very grateful for this relevant visit, with great learning for the entire community. ”.

For his part, Bernasconi indicated that he was “very grateful for the invitation of Rector Luperfina Rojas and her team. Today we are, in the National Accreditation Commission and with the higher education institutions, working on the process of installing the new criteria and standards. In the particular case of today, I have shared with the community of the University of La Serena, through this talk, some reflections on the new higher education law, and the criteria and standards that are established as a central priority of the work. from the higher education institution to the students.”

Along with this, he added that "the new criteria allow institutions to know with much greater clarity what the National Accreditation Commission is looking for and, in addition, they allow, from the point of view of self-assessment, to do a better job of raising the most appropriate questions in institutional work, in its process of self-evaluation and continuous improvement.”

He also highlighted that “this is not only for accreditation, it is for continuous improvement in the institution. It then allows the institution to ask better questions regarding how the criteria are being met. So I believe that these new standards, as a new instrument, are going to help the institution a lot in its process of self-regulation and continuous improvement, in addition to helping peer evaluators when they come to visit the institutions and, finally, the Commission. to make an increasingly well-founded judgment about where the institution is and what it needs to do.”
