Dr. Nolfa Ibáñez met with the Rector ofe the University and gave a conference within the framework of the 43rd institutional anniversary.

"The purpose is to collaborate with a friendly university,” said the academic, differential educator and researcher, Dr. Nolfa Ibáñez, National Prize in Education Sciences 2021, about the reason for her visit to the University of La Serena.

Dr. Ibáñez had the opportunity to meet with the Rector, Dr. Luperfina Rojas, who highlighted the career of the guest teacher and “her invaluable contribution in the formulation of public policies for special education, which gives us a unique and essential perspective about the importance of inclusion at all educational levels.”

Within the framework of the commemoration of the 43rd institutional anniversary, the Department of Education organized the conference of the prominent academic, who presented "Inclusion and Quality Assurance of the Educational System in Chile", where she addressed three axes that, in her opinion, They are fundamental in training and educational practice: learning, diversity and emotions, “which I believe should be looked at differently,” he said.

During the presentation, which was attended by authorities, academics, students and guests, Dr. Ibáñez shared the results of her research, which “arise from evidence of many years of studies in the field, in the classrooms, looking at what happens with the colleagues and students.”

“If we believe that learning is an active process that starts from the student, then we have to make changes, invent something that allows our students, when they go to class, not to stay stuck and watch what others are doing, but to be able to innovate, do new things, dare," highlighted the academic, who when speaking about diversity specified that understanding it as a construction of the world, "is something that would do very good for education (...) If we understand that diversity is constitutive of being human, which is not about being better or worse, but implies only that, difference, so we are going to accept what the other brings and we are going to go from there to have a coexistence that allows us to build something together.”

Dr. Héctor Bugueño, director of the ULS Education Department, stated that “the university has declared itself an inclusive institution and, in that sense, it is tremendously pertinent to have the presence of a person with the knowledge and experience of Dr. Nolfa Ibáñez, who represents the path towards where we can advance from the point of view of inclusion, which is not simply an integration, since it is a much more complex concept."

In this sense, Rector Rojas expressed that, on this anniversary of the University, “we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to inclusion and academic excellence. We recognize the hard work of Dr. Nolfa Ibáñez and all those who have dedicated their efforts to promoting a more fair and equitable education. Let us move forward with determination and conviction, knowing that together we can build a more inclusive and promising future for all.”
