The president of CUECH, Osvaldo Corrales, noted that "we are very happy with the resolution," emphasizing the educational commitment so that "gender equality is a reality."

The Constitutional Court has finally decided to reject the request of some parliamentarians to declare the concept of "sexist education" inadmissible within the Comprehensive Law for Protection Against Gender Violence.

The law was passed on March 6, but the request from deputies argued that the concept violated the preferential right of mothers and fathers to choose the education of their daughters and sons and against the freedom of education in schools.

This is because the second paragraph of article 12 of the law stipulates that: “Educational establishments recognized by the State must promote non-sexist education with gender equality and consider the promotion of equality in their internal regulations and protocols.” in dignity and rights and the prevention of gender violence in all its forms.”

However, the TC decided to reject the request, in a close vote that ended with 6 in favor and 4 against.

Previously, the request had been strongly rejected by the rectors of the Consortium of State Universities, who went to the TC to express their disagreement, through a presentation led by the rector of the University of O'Higgins, Fernanda Kri Amor.

The CUECH appreciated the ruling, defending non-sexist education as key to eradicating gender violence. "We are very satisfied with the resolution," declared the president of CUECH, rector Osvaldo Corrales of the University of Valparaíso.

Likewise, he highlighted that "we think it is very important that Chilean education is committed to making gender equality a reality" and that non-sexist education "represents part of the universal values that we as public universities encourage."
