Teachers from schools in lagging areas of the Coquimbo Region will take a free online diploma

The program is taught by the University of La Serena and is part of the Conecta ULS 2195 project and its Distance Education Office.

Twenty teachers from educational establishments in El Guindo, Huatulame, Canela Alta and the Microcenter of Subsidized Private Schools of Combarbalá were awarded scholarships by the University of La Serena to take the Diploma in Didactic Innovation in Initial Teacher Training, which is taught online and it's completely free.

The program aims to strengthen their pedagogical skills and improve the quality of teaching in their educational establishments, thus enriching the comprehensive training of their students and helping them adapt to the challenges of today's world.

One of the beneficiaries is the director of the Canela Alta School, Helene Vega, who stated that “this is a great opportunity for our establishment, both because of the ministerial guidelines, and because of what we have proposed in terms of pedagogical leadership, since "That will allow us to improve our pedagogical practices, especially in the implementation of didactics that are innovative in a changing and highly technological world, bridging gaps, which is extremely important for a school that is located in a rural area."

The director of the Huatulame school, Maury Galleguillos, will also take the diploma, who expressed that “many educational communities in lagging areas, such as those in the Monte Patria commune, face significant difficulties in accessing quality education, due to the barriers geographical, infrastructure and scarce resources. This is why the opportunity that the University of La Serena offers us through its Conecta ULS project is so valuable, to overcome these adversities and promote educational inclusion, helping to reduce the gap with the educational establishments that are in the most important cities. big".

The Master in Education and specialist in Curriculum and Educational Community of the Conecta ULS 2195 project, Coralina Muñoz, explained that classes will begin on April 16 and that the diploma will last approximately three and a half months, consisting of four modules, with rapporteurs from the University of La Serena.

For some years now, the University of La Serena (ULS), through its Distance Education Office, has been teaching diplomas through online classes, offering those who want to continue deepening their knowledge the opportunity to do so remotely, which which represents a great opportunity for those who live in the most remote communes of the territory or in other regions of the country.

The academic from the Faculty of Humanities of the University of La Serena, Sebastián Rossel, who is a Doctor in Education and a specialist in Research and Methodological Consulting of the Conecta ULS project and Director of the Diploma in Didactic Innovation in Initial Teacher Training, pointed out that “ guarantee access to this “our project focuses precisely on bringing active learning methodologies closer to the most remote educational communities in our region.” 

Conecta ULS 2195 is an initiative led by the Academic Vice-Rector of the University of La Serena (ULS) and the Directorate of Linkage with the Environment and Extension (Diveuls), which is carried out with funds from the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC), through its call for Regional Higher Education (ESR) 2021 projects, and its main objective is to enhance the capabilities of the management teams, teachers, and students of educational establishments in some of the lagging areas of the Coquimbo Region, starting of joint work with academics and students of the ULS, through the application of Active Learning Methodologies (MMA).
