Works by composers who are not present in the official concert season were performed.

With a successful and crowded opening, the University of La Serena Symphony Orchestra began the 2024 chamber music cycle, performing three free concerts in the Province of Elqui. The musical proposal included an ambitious chamber music program, with works by Max Reger and Johannes Brahms, for string and woodwind training.

The First Chamber Music Season Concert featured the participation of prominent members of the symphonic cast, such as Gerardo Bluhm (traverse flute), Paulina Elgueta (violin) and Polyana Brehmer (viola), who presented the 'Serena in G Major for flute, violin and viola; Op. 141' by Max Reger. Later it was the turn of Erick Delgado (clarinet), Cecilia Olmos and Ramiro Álvarez (violin), Ricardo Muñoz (viola) and Iván Rivas (cello), who delighted the audience with the 'Quintet for clarinet and strings' in B Minor, Op .115, by Johannes Brahms, a melancholic and complex work written by the composer in his mature stage and which was executed impeccably by the performers.

The first musical instance took place as an open rehearsal in the Mece hall of the University of La Serena and, then, the territorial extension concert at the Casa del Encuentro Ciudadano in Andacollo, to culminate with the gala concert at the Irma Central Library Salas Silva of the ULS.

The mayor of the mining commune, Gerald Cerda Pizarro, who was at the concert, stated that “as an Andacolla community we feel very lucky to have very good musicians from the OSULS, I know some of them, I am a musician too and I know that there are a lot of effort behind a work. I want to thank the Universidad de La Serena Symphony Orchestra because this chamber intervention they gave us was extraordinary and we enjoyed it very much.” For her part, Ximena Urrutia, commented that she attended with a group of children with disabilities: “we motivated their families so that they could come and enjoy because they are starting a musical tools workshop; None of them knew these instruments nor had they had a chamber concert experience. We thought it was a very beautiful, emotional concert and the space was very pleasant, we all left very happy.”

Finally, it was the turn of the gala concert at the Ignacio Domeyko Faculty of Engineering, which welcomed a large audience of all ages and latitudes in the territory. José Antonio Pérez, from La Serena, highlighted the use of the space and the concert given by the OSULS ensemble: “this is the second concert we have come to, I found it very pleasant to witness it in a space as pleasant and appropriate as the library; It was very cozy, the chairs were well installed and there was a very good sound, really perfect. I really like that they have initiatives of this type,” he expressed. For her part, Antonia González Pérez, ULS student, also highlighted this new concert stage: “it is very accessible, in addition, I can feel the closeness of the library outside of what the studio is and coming to enjoy a concert I feel very nice,” he said.

After this successful inauguration of the OSULS chamber music series, the professional cast is preparing its next seasonal concert, which will close the month of April and will join the anniversary activities of the Faculty of Humanities of the university, celebrating 200 years of Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 1.
