This year's activities will begin with the works of Claude Debussy, the Latin American music of Arturo Márquez and with the oboist Christian Astorga Lorca as soloist of Mozart's concerto in C Major for Oboe. 

This April 27, the La Serena University Orchestra will perform its inaugural concert of the 2024 season, which will take place at 19 p.m. in the Mecesup Room of the Music Department of the University of La Serena (USerena), a space located in Larraín Alcalde # 2843.

Regarding this concert, the Artistic Director of the La Serena University Orchestra, Manuel Figueroa-Bolvarán, told the attendees that “we will present the new orchestral cohort to the community, that is, our new members this year. The program is a stylistic diversity of territories and periods that includes the impressionism of Claude Debussy, the Latin American music of Arturo Márquez and the classicism in the Oboe concert of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with Christian Astorga Lorca as soloist.

For his part, Christian Astorga stated that “being a soloist is always a challenge and, although this is my second time with the OU La Serena, it is the first time that I will play Mozart's C Major for Oboe, which is one of the fundamental concertos that They ask you in all the competitions for all the orchestras.”

Astorga, who graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Music from USerena, and has been participating in the OU La Serena since 2017, becoming first oboe player in this instance, also referred to the experience of belonging to this student group, emphasizing that " Since it is a preparatory orchestra, we have played all types of repertoire and in each concert we see a different program, with different composers, even improvising live.”

In addition to this, the soloist emphasized that “I want to invite the entire public and the musicians to attend this concert, the students too and especially the first and second year music students, I want to tell them not to be afraid.” of belonging to the OU because it is intermediate-advanced, because although they may feel overwhelmed by the repertoire, daring to participate and connect with their classmates and with our director Manuel Figueroa who does a super good job, because he teaches us to play in an orchestra play together.”

It should be added that those who attend will be able to enjoy the collaboration of the contemporary dance student group Ayekantün ULS, who will participate in "Danzón N°2" by Arturo Márquez.
