In order to deepen the knowledge and appreciation of the first inhabitants of the Coquimbo Region, the first-year students of the subject of Regional History and Geography of the Journalism major, visited the Valle del Encanto, in the interior of Ovalle. This site, in addition to being a tourist attraction in the area and a National Monument since 1973, is of great importance due to the legacy left by pre-Hispanic culture.

“It is a beautiful place, which has flora and fauna typical of the semi-arid ecosystem and, from a cultural perspective, its petroglyphs, pictographs and cup stones stand out,” said Francisco Traslaviña, a student of the chair.

On the other hand, Camila Toloza, also a student, stressed that “this place should be exploited much more, in the sense of valuing it, caring for it, improving it and preserving it as the Heritage that it is. Knowledge in the field is very important for academic training in the profession, since the data collected comes from what is tangible and what was observed in the original place.”
