Faculty of Cs. Social and Economic Sciences held its 2014 degree ceremony

The “University of La Serena Award”, an award established by the Rector's Office for the most academically outstanding student of all the Faculty's courses, was won by the new journalist María Paz Catalán.

University authorities, headed by the Rector, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, directors, academics, parents, family and friends, witnessed the graduation of the new professionals graduated from the careers assigned to the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences of the University of La Serene. In two solemn ceremonies, the graduates of the aforementioned macro-unit received their diplomas to the applause of those who filled the Aula Magna Ignacio Domeyko.

This year, a total of 217 new professionals graduated with degrees in Pedagogy in History and Geography (35), Journalism (26), Tourism Administration (22), Auditing (75) and Commercial Engineering (59).

Jorge Fernández, along with congratulating the graduates and their families, pointed out that the good professional in the years to come “must be able to adapt to change, to see in change new opportunities to do new and different things in their careers (…) . I call on you to innovate and also to learn autonomously.” 

Likewise, Dean Fernández told the graduates that a very important element to be a good professional is ethics, “they will gain prestige if they act ethically (…), it is one of the best tools to be respected in the world.” work environment," said the authority, who also highlighted aspects such as strengthening networks and continuous improvement, "which will make you successful professionals."

Finally, he stated that one must be prepared for the possibility of failure in the workplace, pointing out that “the important thing is that we draw lessons from failure and come out stronger.”

Dean Fernández himself was in charge of presenting honorary distinctions to the graduates who obtained the best grade averages in their respective undergraduate programs. This award was received by Jorge Espejo Robles (Ped. in History and Geography), Vilma Lagos Godoy (Tourism Administration), María Paz Catalán Badilla (Journalism), Marcelo Rodríguez Saavedra (Commercial Engineering), Ana Rojas Ponce and Diego Medina Juica (Audit). ).

Finally, representing the graduates, Emilio Espina Briceño (Commercial Engineering) and Silvana Núñez Thompson (Ped. in History and Geography), delivered emotional farewell words to those present.
